My GERD is not caused by bad eating habits but rather by stress, lack of sleep, and anxiety. I regret not taking something for my tinnitus a few years ago when it was harder on me, as it could have prevented scarring. I learned a lesson. Miraculously, im taking Remeron; I had no choice, and im glad it worked out. Now I dont have to stress going to bed anymore.

I had never had medication cause that acid reflux type response like Nortriptyilne did on those 5 occasions where I had eaten late. Even happened with 25mg dose once. No problems with my overnight Ambien doses, but they are 1/8 to 1/4 of a pill (1 to 3mg), and I dissolve them under tongue without swallowing for quick absorption. So no issues at all with acid reflux in some time, just stomach pain.

I finally took 0.5mg Ativan 5am for first time in days and got a little more sleep. That's helped take the edge off the anxiety this morning but not really enough and too risky to take often being a benzo.

Are you currently taking Zolpidem 0.5 mg? Do they taste bad?

In GERD patients given a placebo, the acid reflux events lasted about 20 to 55 seconds compared to about four to eight minutes with zolpidem. With zolpidem, reflux events lasted approximately seven to 15 minutes when no arousal occurred and 30 to 68 seconds when arousal was recorded.

No, 0.5mg is my Lorazepam (Ativan). My Zolpidem (Amiben) pills are 10mg, and I divide them into 7 to 8 pieces, and I take 1 to 2 most nights overnight, so it's usually in the range of 1 to 3mg overnight. Lorazepam and Zolpidem haven't caused side effects like the 3 antidepressants I tried.
RunningMan
The Zolpidem do have some bitterness to them as I dissolve them under the tongue, but it fades away. Lorazepam isn't bitter, but I usually just swallow them.

We all have our little strategy when it comes to meds. I split a pill at 130 am in the past, making sure it's not too much or too little when I should take the more significant piece. Every time I took the smaller piece, I regretted it because it wasn't enough. I learned to always go with the bigger piece.
RunningMan
I only needed one small piece of zolpidem about 1.2mg about 5 hours after bedtime get back to sleep after waking overnight last night. Maybe 6 hrs sleep total. Had taken twice that much for 10 previous nights. Feels like a small win. It happens sometimes. Tinnitus wasn't as intense - probably helped.

"I have trouble falling asleep because I tend to overthink before bedtime. As a result, I need to take medication every night to help me sleep. Sometimes, I lie in bed with my eyes closed for 8 hours, tossing and turning, but I can't fall asleep. This lack of sleep makes my tinnitus worse and affects my entire day. It isn't enjoyable. I can't do those all-nighters anymore.

But Mirt is working for you still, right? Well, this isn't good. My doctor wouldn't consider Gabapentin for sleep or anxiety. He wouldn't prescribe Buspirone while prescribing Lorazepam. And he wouldn't prescribe a different sleep med until I finish latest Zolpidem presription refill. And he didn't want to prescribe anything else at this time.

"Mirtz is still working. It sounds like your doctor is being extra cautious. If you had a psychiatrist, they would prescribe you any medication you need to help you. I have gabapentin. I will give it another try one day. I also have Seroquel. I was trying to find out on the net if 6mg of Seroquel would put you to sleep; if you take 6mg, you would get 0 side effects.

I guess it depends on the psych, but I don't have one. He mentioned maybe I need referred to one because they know more about the latest drug use for this type of thing. Dr. would consider prescribing another AD. He wants me to get annual bloodwork & endoscopy first. And he told me I can take the Lorazepam up to 3 times per day since I'm avoiding taking it much.

@RunningMan
What is the monthly dosage of lorazepam prescribed? By the way, it's good to know you're scheduled for an upper GI test.
RunningMan
One 0.5 mg tablet three times per day. 90 pills on the refill, but I don't take them that often. My Dr. told me some patients take it 4 time per day and some take 1 mg. I actually took a pill today after skipping 3 days. I'm still waiting for a call from gastroenterologist's office on the referral.

I can only get 10 Klonopin pills per month from my psychiatrist. However, I only need them at night to help me sleep.
RunningMan
Yeah, it's good 1/4 a tablet works for you (along with Mirt) - that's about the same potency as 1/2 tablet of my Lorazepam, which is fairly mild even taking my full pills, but it's primarily for anxiety in my case.

Dr. switched me from Zolpidem to Quviviq at my request because I wanted to see if I would sleep better. First night was a real bust - slept initially, but woke and had some crazy sensations in bed a couple hours after taking the pill but never fell asleep again until I took something else. I'll be trying again to see if anything improves.
Supersix
@RunningMan, I hope you see improvement.Let me know how it goes
RunningMan
Well 17 nights on Quviviq with last 6 nights on the max 50 mg dose. It's still not looking too good. I woke early and often overnight, took Ativian at 5AM, and still probably got only 5 hours of broken sleep. I'm sticking with it for now since some people report it working better after a few weeks. I'm not seeing any improvement, yet.

It might be helpful to try taking a small dose of Remeron along with a quarter of Lorazepam. For the past two weeks, I haven't needed Remeron and have been able to fall asleep on my own. I only take 1/4 of Klonopin when needed at night.
