Milder T is completely manageable, I lived with it for years before it got worse (partly due to negligence on my part), be cognizant of noise levels and live your life.
I've seen so many new members lately start of okay, then get sucked into the "my life is over" mentality and fall into a depression, this forum is toxic for certain personality types.
Is it the social interaction that you like? Was that part of your life maybe lacking even before T? Because that can be fixed without hanging around a place where ppl talk about killing themselves.
I actually find your "posting place" kind of funny, and I certainly don't hold any ill will towards you. You seem to be pretty social and have a few friends on here (Contrast to name one), I don't think you truly hate people.
If I had severe tinnitus I would trade with cancer no doubt, because I would not want to live....I barely want to live with the T I have now, which is not severe.....you have to respect that people have different opinions of suffering. I know one would suffer from cancer but they would also be an end to it i.e death, which is prefarable to life long suffering.
Why have we convinced ourselves that ringing in the ears is the worst thing imaginable? Equalizer has said in the past that T is worse than terminal cancer and torture, but it is really?
This is a difficult topic AZeurotuner. Tinnitus can be the worst thing imaginable to some individuals. I know members who've taken their lives, after they had attempted various kinds of treatments, and after they had given plenty of time for improvement. I think it is a dangerous path to compare tinnitus with other ailments.
Tinnitus is a very subjective phenomenon, for some the incessant noise can become too much to bear. These people need to have a voice too, and be able to share their feelings. Most of the time the depressing thoughts alleviate over time, but not for everyone.
We're currently working on a "Tinnitus Guide". We have great contributors for the guide, including a Harvard researcher and a hyperacusis specialist. This guide will serve as a tool for newbies and veterans alike, providing plenty of sensible information. We realize the forum discussions can become a bit much sometime, so this guide will counter that often so opinion-based discussion.
PS. I do agree with you that stating tinnitus is as deadly as cancer is far from appropriate. Not only inappropriate but also misinformed. Tinnitus is something that most people can learn to live with, so it's also wrong to generalize "those who survive remain in hell".
But there are exceptions, and we need more awareness and research so that the persisting debilitated cases can get relief.
@Markku I understand I was being rather argumentative and that isn't helping people. The comparisons to cancer, sexual assault, and torture just set me off (I have personal experience with these topics). As well as newbies seeing this stuff and thinking their life is over, T is tough but it can be fought, I feel a guide would be very helpful.
