  • Family is back from a week-long camping trip and I can hear my ultra-high pitch hissing/squealing coming back. Coincidence?
    kingsfan
Yep it has been getting louder and "hiss-ier" as the day moves along. Accidentally dropping a huge ice cube into my stainless steel Klean Kanteen tumbler probably didn't help either.
    Sodlin
I need to attend a birthday for my brothers kid this weekend. Can already hear the balloons poping, children screaming, and glasses falling to the floor. "oh kids are just the best isnt it Sodlin?"......
I probably would have had excruciating tinnitus a decade earlier had my old car's stereo not been broken and if I'd bothered to fix it.
    kingsfan
I did drive on the highway a lot with the windows down, bc the AC was also broken. So maybe it all cancelled each other out.
I have 2 weeks to figure out where I'm going to live and how to get the money to pay for it, but I'm immobilized by my tinnitus.
    kingsfan
@2049v Wore out my welcome with family. It's time to move on. I'm middle-aged. I should have my own place, but I've struggled with work since tinnitus. Had a really good career and was financially sound. Now I'm left with nothing.
    2049v
I'm in a similar situation. I had a job I liked, colleagues I liked, and a decent income in my own way, but one by one, I lost them all. Now, what are you thinking of doing? My situation has turned into a tangled mess.
    kingsfan
@2049v I said I was going to kill myself once my bank account reached $0. I can't live in poverty with tinnitus.
How does one move on from a setback and stop comparing their new T volume to how it used to be?How do you stop ruminating over your mistake?
    SimonRK
Sertraline helps me to stop ruminating on past mistakes that caused my T, and live more in the present. Wanting to go back and change the past has caused me so much pain and wasted time. But even though I see that, I still need medication to change the thought pattern.
    kingsfan
@SimonRK I've tried Sertraline, but it unfortunately spiked my tinnitus so I couldn't continue. I've tried Zoloft, Nortriptyline, and Mirtazapine so far with no luck due my tinnitus spiking. I'm going to try Prozac next.
Going to that restaurant was stupid. I even knew it was a bad idea. But I struggle with conflict and saying no to people.
    kingsfan
Could hyperacusis be the cause? I've been to restaurants several times before and had been alright and comfortable. I guess I can't anymore.
    cjbhab
give it some time. i had a restaurant setback last December because i stupidly went to the work christmas lunch. My T was a disaster after. in about 3 weeks it was a lot better.
    ECP
Being chronically ill was the only thing that made me better at saying no. Please get some rest, and yeah, watch out for those restaurants that have metal chairs on the sidewalks. They are painful to listen to.
Wish I could hear what my tinnitus sounded like 3 years ago. I can hardly remember. I bet it was bliss. I remember somewhat content.
    2049v
Did you have an acustic trauma? Why did it get worse?
    kingsfan
@2049v Every little things makes mine worse. Its worsened too many times in only 4 years. I've managed to adjust each time so far, but it's getting more and more difficult.
I had just gotten used to, or maybe it had even quieted down, my mishap from last month and now everything is raging again =/
4 years in a couple weeks and I still can't seem to put myself first. Went to a restaurant with my dad today and am regretting it.
Hey, do you get to see your daughter much at all?
    kingsfan
    No. Not much at all.
    Zigs
I'm so sorry. The pain of being away from my kids is unbearable
    kingsfan
@Zigs It's been difficult. Hard to function, then add debilitating tinnitus on top of it. She has a busy life with work, school, and boyfriend. I know I'd be seeing less of her if I were there, but it would still be much more than currently.
Just got a message from AMEX saying they will decline any further transactions bc I'm too afraid to look at my bank account to pay my bill
    cjbhab
just rip off the bandaid and get in there unfortunately is my advice.
    kingsfan
@cjbhab I finally did late last night (`>_<)
The hits keep coming. Found out yesterday my remaining cat has kidney disease. Hopefully medication will give him many more healthy years.
I swear, small-town midwest is louder than living in LA. Always a train, diesel truck, motorcycle, or lawn mower going by outside.
    RunningMan
I'm in the midwest and don't feels it's too loud most of the time. Sure people mow their lawns through part of the year. With the train, it depends how close you are to it. I'm 1/2 mile away, and it sometimes seems a little loud but don't even notice it most of the time.
    kingsfan
@RunningMan I'm 1 block away. Train tracks run through every single town here, and there's some sort of business here that wasn't here when I grew up that has trains coming through multiple times a day. I don't know if it's natural gas or what it is. The air often stinks here at night too. My asthma was way better in smoggy southern california than it has been here.
    RunningMan
Yeah, one block is pretty close. I wouldn't want to be any closer than my 1/2 mile, for sure.
Moving to the midwest was one of the worst decisions of my life. I hate it here. I've always hated it here. I'm so stuck. 2 years wasted.
Going through my "alert" sounds on my phone. All of them hurt even on the lowest volume. I've had my phone on silent for last 4 years.
    MaxRabbit
My phone has been on vibrate only or do not disturb/silent mode since tinnitus. Phone speakers are death to your ears.
So within the past couple weeks. Right ear worsened from barber. Left ear worsened from collapsing a metal dog crate. Earplugs in each time.
Over the last 2 weeks, and especially the last 3 days, my T has transformed into something completely foreign to what it used to be.
All I want is to stop getting worse. 10-20 seconds of a razor WITH earplugs shouldn't worsen my T yet it did. WTF.ForgetACureIWantStabililty
    streifzug
Me, too. I need 2 stable months at the very least to get over all the fkn recent worsenings.
    kingsfan
@streifzug has it just been deteriorating on its own, or has it been a series of unfortunate events?
Well I've spent the last few days complaining about my right ear I guess the left felt left out. 4khz tone is currently louder than ever
Can't sleep. Having 2 loud ears is really difficult. I've only dealt with one loud ear and the other moderate up until now.
    Bob3382
I am thankful that mine is only one ear.
    kingsfan
@Bob3382 I always was too. I think I relied on my better ear too much to hear and didn't protect it enough.
All because I had the wrong ear plug in and forgot to switch it back to a solid after describing what cut I wanted. Why am I so fragile?
absolutely, completely, struggling again. my right ear has never had a temporary spike, only permanent, so that what I expect to happen here
    Juliane
Hope this one will be temporary
    kingsfan
@Juliane it's been about 2 weeks, but I wrote it off to being sick. Now that I'm feeling better sick-wise it's still spiked, so I'm getting anxiety about it.
    Juliane
I understand. It is so difficult. I hope for the best.
Static in my right ear has still been a problem since the barber used clippers near it. I've had clippers used a ton of times, no problem.
    kingsfan
So frustrated by my right ear. I can clearly hear it over my loud left ear now. It's panic-inducing.
Not feeling ill anymore. Spike gone so far. Antigen test was negative when i took it - never got a PCR though. Symptoms stayed mild.
    BrOKeN_1
    Some good news maybe.
    kingsfan
Spike was down for a couple days but has been up and down since. At least I don't feel sick anymore.
Right ear has been elevated for a week now - since going to the barber. Left hear has been elevated since I started feeling ill 2 days later
&Eat raw garlic in the morning followed by water. Make home made ginger tea. Get vitiman D from the sun. With these , covid will be mild and you will beat it.
Wishing you peace, love, and a winning lottety ticket
    kingsfan
Thanks Daniel. Been taking zinc lozenges and been getting outside a bit. Haven't had any full-blown symptoms so far, but just general malaise, fatigue, scratchy throat, and slightly irritated lungs.
Think I might have caught something while out the other day. I wish others still masked. Each covid infection is one step closer to longcovid
    BrOKeN_1
Just got back from San Diego and I for sure caught something. Hang in there @kingsfan
    kingsfan
@BrOKeN_1 That sucks. Hope it's just regular old rhino or coronavirus of the non-19 variant.
