  • So today I took my last prednisone (5mg). All my sinus pressure, ear pressure, and electric hissing T is back. I think inflammation is a key
Playing guitar yesterday I noticed it's my right ear that is sensitive to high freq. My left seems to sound a bit dull with high freq
    snizzleberry
Hey what's up brother? Hope you're doing better. Do you have any idea when the 1of1 will be doing a sale again? Thank you.
    kingsfan
@snizzleberry hey yo, maybe they'll do something for 4th of July or Labor Day. If not, they always seem to do Black Friday.
    kingsfan
Day 2 of tapering down Prednisone. Tinnitus is being unpredictable.
    Thizzle
Hopefully you had a couple quite days
    kingsfan
@Thizzle I had a few quiet evenings in amongst the anxiety that high dose prednisone brings. Was annoying most of the day though after I would dose.
    Thizzle
Prednisone brought me my last couple quite days 2 months ago, not sure at what cost tho
Hello Kingsfan. Thank you for sharing your experience with Prednisone. It was good to read you had some recovery but sadly other times, no recovery.

I think what you have shared will be valuable for anyone looking on this forum too for anything Prednisone related.

Wishing you well through your current spike.
Can't sleep and so decided to change my cats water and dropped the steel bowl into the sink without earplugs in. Fml. So careless lately.
    kingsfan
@ECP Yea I've thought about it. I had a sink mat when I had my own apartment, but I was dumping the water out in the bathroom sink attached to my room. I had been trying to wear my earplugs less in the house but I've gone back to wearing them when doing anything with dishes or cleaning.
    ECP
I go through phases wear I wear protection in the kitchen and bathroom, and phases where I don't (and then I regret it). And I just noticed that there aren't any sink mats on Amazon for bathrooms, only kitchens, because nobody but T and H sufferers would be interested, LOL. People like us will have to get creative and make our own, or trim the kitchen mats to size. I hope you're feeling better today.
    kingsfan
@ECP I think the mats are more to protect people's sinks than to cut down on the banging and clanging. Non-T/H people just don't understand.
Well now I get to spend my evening in torment wondering if the two shitbags on harleys in the parking lot just made my life even worse
    kingsfan
@gameover Winter is much safer. I was completely unprepared. I guess now I know. My preparations are like OSHA rules, written in blood.
    gameover
I sadly live near rednecks that who addicted to creting noise. Harelys, pickup trucks, garbage muscle cars, all modified. Plus exurban losers who have nothing else do to but cut 1 inch grass. Just because riding lawn mower is fun. Human race is despicable.
    kingsfan
@gameover Grass lawns.. don't get me started. We can thank Thomas Jefferson for bringing that European concept of showing off wealth to the US. What a waste of time, petroleum, and hair cells.
    I need to overcome phonophobia
    cjbhab
@Thizzle that is exactly what i told my audiologist. i know what is going to happen when i expose myself to certain noise. it is not an irrational fear.
WeLL hoW do YoU kNoW? they say. because i've been living with this long enough to figure it out.
    kingsfan
@Thizzle That's how it started, but now I have to have protection on just to open a door for fear any squeaking will worsen me. I believe I have H from overprotection. Many of my spikes may be from H now.
    kingsfan
@cjbhab I'm starting to think earplugs don't do much but worsen H over time. My T has only gotten worse over time despite wearing protection religiously and so has my sound sensitivity. Nothing spiked my T when I first had it except rigorous physical activity, and I didn't wear hearing protection for the first month or two. Now every little things spikes it.
I've come to realization that the only way i'll back to LA is to move without a job like I did the first time. The only issue is I have no $
I'm now holding balances on my credit cards bc my bank account will be in the negative if I pay them. Will have to pull money out of my 401k
    RunningMan
I always hear SSDI is very difficult to get for a condition like this. Even for mental health, you have to show a history of treatment and documentation from your dr that you aren't able to work, then usually need a lawyer and still maybe wait for 2 years. It's an injustice to those people. I know it's been discussed in a thread on Tinnitus Talk.
    kingsfan
@RunningMan I'm able to work. I want to work. I'm tired of rotting.
    Juliane
@kingsfan I understand completely. You should be working, using your skills and talents. Not working as a groundskeeper!
Redesigning and rewriting my resume for the 100th time. Redesigning my portfolio website and coding in Astro. Rewriting case studies...
Wish I could win $50k in the lottery so I could move back to LA. I'm missing my daughter's whole teenage years. She will graduate next spring
    RunningMan
Yeah, I wish I could win $50M in the lottery. But I don't even play the lottery... ever. Anyway, hoping something works out for you.
    4Grace
@kingsfan - you are a very strong. My heart goes out to everyone on here. Such heart breaking stories.
    Juliane
Well got one health flair up under control and now a completely different one pops up. Of course I still have to deal with T.
    Juliane
Sorry to hear that :-( Sounds like how my life has been for the past few months
I need to vacuum so badly, but I can't. It's too loud. I'm embarrassed to say how much time has passed since I vacuumed last...
    D
If you're able to leave home, you can try using a Roomba to vacuum while you're gone. I believe the new ones can be turned on/off remotely.
    cjbhab
Vacuums are the worst. Thank god for my cleaning lady.
    kingsfan
@cjbhab If I ever get a job again that's what I want to do. I've racked up a lot of debt being unemployed though so who knows if I'll ever be in that stable position again.
Strung a couple of decent days together (with the new louder static) only to have the high freq hiss back today. Haven't done anything new
Hey there, I remember seeing something that you had some custom earplugs made using 3-D scan was wondering how was it did it hurt etc. etc.
    kingsfan
Yea I have a couple pair of custom molds. Having the molds taken is painless and only takes a minute or two. Feels like shaving cream or whipped cream in your ears.
    M
That's great. So nothing really to worry about. Thanks appreciate it
I wonder if magnesium glycinate might be spiking me. Looks like it has happened to people here. I'm taking it for non-tinnitus reasons
    Pinhead
It gave me new temporary tones that would wake me in the middle of the night. They stopped as soon as I switched to Magnesium L-Threonate. It doesn't help the screeching, but it helps me sleep.
    kingsfan
@Pinhead Yea I've taken L-threonate without any issue
Played my electric guitar unplugged yesterday with only fingerpicking. Was nice, but immediately spiked me and has carried over into today.
Am I really worried that clipping my cats nails without hearing protection will worsen me? Got that TTTS pressure in my right ear now
    J
When I worsen ALL sounds scare the shit out of me. Then a few day go by, I'm still alive, my nerves calm some. But while I'm in that state I do overprotect. After that my ears crack and flutter adjusting back to no plugs. Its better than damage on top of damage.
    kingsfan
@JeffToob Yea I have ups and downs with it, but it's always 2 steps, 1 step forward with my tinnitus. So I'll get better, but never back to the previous level.

It's always been up and down with TTTS as well. It will get better. I'll stop protecting for every little thing, then eventually it comes back and I'll begin overprotecting again until it settles. Rinse and repeat.
I'm just baffled that a few seconds of a hand dryer WITH earplugs would increase my T so much. I survived it 100 times before with less pro
    Juliane
Stop using hand dryers. Honestly. Not worth it. How about a towel?
    kingsfan
@Juliane I didn't use it. Some teenager turned it on right as I walked in the door.
    Juliane
    Oh :-(
I was hoping 1of1 would have a mother's day sale as I really want to get custom solids. I don't want to wait until memorial day
    snizzleberry
Thank you so much. Can you recommend the best ones to get from them?
    kingsfan
@snizzleberry They are having a 15% off sale today and tomorrow. I caught the email they sent me a little late, the sale started last week.

I personally like the Pro-20 and Pro-27 as they don't attenuate low frequencies as much and sound better in every day situations.

The Pro-17 and Pro-26 have more low freq attenuation and probably sound better for concerts with large subwoofers.
    snizzleberry
Once again, dealing with more than just my tinnitus. My body is a wreck.
    Ryan Scott
Same here brother hang in there. The last 6 months of my life has been a total wreck.
    Utdmad89
Yep 18 months of this crap. When will the suffering end
    kingsfan
I've been dealing with this particular health problem for about a year now. It's extremely painful, I slowly rehabilitate, only to re-injure and continue the cycle. I feel like it's just going to continue and never really fully heal.
It's interesting reading other's noise trauma experiences. Mine are so bland - going to mechanic, walking into a restroom. My life is sad.
    kingsfan
@4Grace No I only took it the one time
    snizzleberry
It's not too late to start living again. We only live once.
    kingsfan
@snizzleberry I've been trying. Being unemployed and unable to snag a tinnitus-safe job for almost 3 years has really hindered me. I did get to witness the total solar eclipse a month ago though, so that's something. Saw it alone though.
Seems this elevated head hiss/static will be the norm now.Static in right ear has elevated to an uncomfortable level. It used to b a nonissue
Another day of recruiters contacting me on LinkedIn and then ghosting me. Down to my last dollar. Yet another worsening. My end is nearing.
    RunningMan
I keep hearing about more tech layoffs. Two family members have lost IT jobs in the last year. Neither has found a new one.
    Juliane
    How about unemployment benefits?
