Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum, so I would like to say hello to all of you, share a bit of my personal experience, and hopefully get some feedback from others.
First of all, I would like to explain that my tinnitus was likely caused either by Sertraline or by anxiety attacks. I was on...
I have been prescribed anti-anxiety meds and contemplates trying them out since I have alot of anxiety and panic attacks. Anybody out there who has had any trouble with these kinds of meds? Really afraid that I'll make it worse although I cant see how much louder this can get right now.
Do you believe taking Anti-depressants and Anti-anxiety medication when one has tinnitus is wise? i.e. to treat the associated depression and anxiety caused by tinnitus / loss of sleep? Also, do you think taking any of these meds prevent habituation say with TRT / hypnotherapy?
Also, what...
...has been going on for over 1.5 months now actually, I was given three medicines from the doctors, anti depressant, anti psychotic and antianxiety medicine.
I decided not to take the anti depressants because one I worried would make my tinnitus spike, and anti psychotics are notorious for...
...who offered me anti-anxiety meds, sleeping tablets or antidepressants.
Decided I'd take the anti-anxiety prescription and decide whether I want them later.
I've been offered Propranolol 40mg.
Anyone have any experience with this or other antianxiety meds and can share if it helped at all?
Before these problems, I had never taken psychotropic or anti-anxiety medications—they were completely unfamiliar to me. But after the first setback, I had no other option, and an anti-anxiety medication helped me break the negative cycle after just one dose.
Another win today.
I stopped taking anti-anxiety today. It has gone well, and I have not freaked out like I did in the beginning of my tinnitus career.
However...
My tinnitus feels louder, or is louder today, and I'm a little concerned. Actually, it is louder because I could hear it at the...
I am thinking about getting antianxiety pills. The audiologist says for some it increases tinnitus. Any experiences? or meds name that increased yours?
Thank you
...I go work, and go home sleep. I'm fine with being alone but it would be nice to have the opportunity to go out sometimes too.
Could antianxiety help me with this. Lets say i take a pill, then go out somewhere and meet peole and maybe hit some girls.
Anyone tried this solution for socializing?
Hey guys, so I have sleep maintenance insomnia and some anxiety, which ultimately led to tinnitus. I haven't yet conquered the insomnia/anxiety, but have come along way to understand it. I'm not reacting in particular to the tinnitus, except when it's louder (explained below).
Every medicine I...
Ah yes, and the department will just move on seamlessly, as hundreds take “resignation,” programs and benefits are cut, and those who can find employment elsewhere, usually the most qualified, do so. Human Resources, supporting agencies, and other parts of the system being in complete disarray...
It's actually an anxiolytic - anti-anxiety medication rather than an antidepressant. But yes, it has been associated with T. I'll add that I have taken a few different actual ADs in the past and didn't get VSS. I would like to try the anti-anxiety med buspirone, but when I asked my doctor...
@AnonymousMouse Hold up. Have you tried taking any antianxiety or anti depressant meds? I know there are a lot of people on this forum that are against meds, but klonopin definitely reduces the loudness of tinnitus for a day or two. I'm going on three months since my T started after I had...
@tomytl, Which anti-anxiety medication were you using? What kind of effect does it have exactly? Was it a benzo? I think that sooner or later my life will somehow continue, even if in a bad way, but without a trace of my former peace and happiness. I don’t think the medications would help with this.
...go wrong is there. I want to kill the anxiety, and off course my T. As I have read some stories here on tinnitustalk about people taking antianxiety drugs I have looked in the recent scientific papers on anxiety and kv7 channels. My dental surgeon suggested anti epileptic drugs and from the...
Dear Dr. Nagler,
I would appreciate your valued input to my situation. I will describe everything I know/have learned. I'm 34 years old, active, and normal weight, no current stresses in my life for years.
I have sleep maintenance insomnia, I wake after 4hrs sleep and very often unable to...
I am thinking about taking some anti-anxiety medication to help calm me down; has anyone heard of such medication making tinnitus worse? If so, do you know what specific medication?
I am thinking about taking Zoloft low dosage to start out with.
So Xanax helps but I know I can't depend on that if this tinnitus lasts (had it 2 months now).
Has anyone had any success with a more long-tern anti-anxiety pill like Buspar?
Hello,
Quick question - How many days/months you took anti-anxiety drugs to take the edge off after coming down with tinnitus?
How did you wean off? How tough was it?
I am taking Buspirone 5mg twice a day for anxiety... took it for a week now.
Is there a herbal/supplement way to reduce...
I’m sorry to hear about your condition. If you’ve had hearing loss-induced tinnitus for many years and are in your 60s or 70s, I would suggest taking anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications until the Susan Shore Device becomes available in a couple of years. In the meantime, focus on...
Hi, I have moderate tinnitus that at times causes a lot of anxiety. To treat the anxiety, I am on Xanax .5mg as needed. I pretty much take it 3 times per day.
My question is has anyone who is taking benzos been able to habituate to tinnitus? I know there are so many people saying benzos slow...
My last hope is an anti-anxiety meds. If they would be able to reduce my T and H even if only for a couple of hours it's going to be a win. I hope my new psychiatrist will not be as conservative as my old one ._.
They say stress can be a cause. I was dealing with a period of stress which led me to an anti-anxiety medication and then my problems started. So sorry you had to deal with someone stalking you.
At the very least I hope that strong anti-anxiety meds will help me for at least a few hours. I will not use them every day or even every week but god I just need one, ONE, silent day. I'm not religious but I pray it will help. At least 20% noise reduction IS a win to me!
I so understand. I went to the doctor because I didn't feel well. I was under alot of stress. They said nothing was wrong prescribed me and antianxiety med and now I spend every day depressed
It's disappeared. Well...have no idea what's going on in my middle and inner ears but some serious processes and they are kinda scary. Anyway, tomorrow I MAY be finally getting anti-anxiety meds for my panic attacks. I hope everything goes smoothly and I won't be prescribed one more...
There's also anti-anxiety meds that some people take, such as benzos (best taken sparingly or avoided) or Buspirone (can cause tinnitus), Pregabalin/Lyrica, and Gabapentin. I've used Hydroxyzine, but it's an antihistimime that's more like a sleeping pill and hasn't worked that well for me.
I was offered Lamotrigine under the explanation it was for my anxiety. There was no mention or talk of any effect on tinnitus.
Has anybody experienced any anxiety or tinnitus relief from Lamotrigine?
Of what I've been offered, this one sounds the most temperamental and difficult to figure out...
Hi,
I recently developed tinnitus, and it’s been devastating. The only things that help are anti-anxiety medications when needed, masking noise with YouTube videos, and using Temazepam or Ambien to sleep. I’m trying to avoid taking these medications, but I get almost no sleep because of the...
I wonder how much our anxiety embeds the tones in our brains. If I had taken antianxiety meds from the onset of t, I would have slept, brushed off the noise, and maybe t would not have taken such a hold on my brain, minimizing brain plasticity and t loudness, number of tones etc. It's a thought...
Hey Nadia, thank you for liking my post. I started noticing my tinnitus after a year. I do have to say I was on anti-anxiety and anti-depressants while in school which helped it become less noticeable. Feeling isolated as well and would love to talk to others.
...of because I was taking hydroxyzine for anxiety 2-3 times a day and it just made me loopy and out of it. I am so absolutely terrified of antianxiety medicine making my tinnitus worse or giving me pulsatile. I have made slight progress this week.
Not as much anxiety, trying to focus on my...
I asked my doctor to consider prescribing clonazepam, as I’ve read that it can help some people. However, she’s hesitant due to the nature of that class of drugs. I do have a prescription for Ativan, but it doesn’t seem to help with my tinnitus. I also have a prescription for Zoloft sitting in...
Have you continued with Cyclobenzaprine and, if so, what’s your experience been?
I ask because I’m looking for an (even off-label) anti-anxiety medication that has the lowest risk of exacerbating my tinnitus. My psych prescribed Duloxetine / Cymbalta, but from reading the threads on Tinnitus...
Docs are quick to prescribed anti-anxiety and depression meds for anything they can't answer or fix... if they don't know it must obviously be in one's head?!?!? When it doesn't work out you become a statistic for the supposed 1% who had a problem. Then they want nothing to do with you. I am a...
There is a member on this forum with tinnitus who had a tumor on their auditory nerve and had to have the nerve cut in order to remove the tumor. According to their post, it did not relieve their tinnitus symptoms.
A Work in Progress: Living with Tinnitus by @Joe P. Tamborra.
I hope Joe can...
@BrOKeN_1 I’ve had an antianxiety med(buspar) on hand for over a month. Terrified to take it. It might be time to give it a try. I can’t continue like this. Scared of an increase due to the med.
...All of my tests TTTS, OAE, ear structure, extended hearing all checked out perfect. My downfall was taking a small does of an antianxiety drug for 3 weeks to calm my heart down. When my Tinnitus started they did the typical MRI and CT and found a hidden brain malformation I was born with. So...
Well, I got tinnitus at 38, I'm still 38. It was caused by a low dose antianxiety drug called Busphar that I took for 3 weeks. Ears are healthy, hearing is good. 4 months in for me.
...far is anxiety during the day.
I do CBT (thanks to the book you supplied to me) and try stopping my negative thinking.
I wonder if an antianxiety med would cut the anxiety a little bit.
I remember taking Obipramol when I was in the tinnitus clinic. But it increased my liver values.
Maybe it...
Dude sorry to ask, do you take anything for anxiety? I've read our issue has been treated with antianxiety meds in some cases, also anti epilepsy meds too. What did your mri say?
@4Grace I figured enough was enough and decided to take the safest, most gentle antianxiety med. I'm very sensitive to medications. So I took a quarter of the lowest dose for 3 weeks and woke up with tinnitus.
Well I woke up and it was as quiet as it has been in the morning after a 5 mg pill yesterday afternoon. Could be a coincidence so far. Mood is ok though and seems like it had an anti-anxiety effect, completely different to the benzo anti-anxiety but drugged feeling. Feeling calm.
Hello everyone,
I've started experience tinnitus on September 7, 2021. I'm unsure if it came from either:
- Using 15mg Remeron (Mirtazapine) for 2 weeks and stopping over 6 days. I initally took Remeron for insomnia and dealing with a stressful event.
- Dysfunction of C1, C2 vertebrae from a...
Don't worry, you will get better in time; you just need to have a lot of patience. Trust the process, as they say.
Here are my suggestions:
Avoid taking online hearing tests, as they can be inaccurate and potentially harmful.
I would consider taking prednisone. A typical course might be 60mg...
How much L-Theanine do you take, and does it spike your tinnitus? I've read that it spikes some people's tinnitus because of its effect on serotonin. Does it give you any calming or anti-anxiety effect, which it is supposed to have?
By the way, I read your success story, and it gave me some...
Hello:)
I developed tinnitus in the middle of November 2013. I suppose in my case I had the classical combination of loud music and high stress levels prior to that which triggered the tinnitus. In the beginning I wasn't very anxious about my tinnitus, but by the beginning of January I realized...
I occasionally mention there's a fair amount of overlap between tinnitus and Myalgic Enchalomylitis (aka as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). In tinnitus, there appears to be some kind of faulty interplay between the auditory system and the brain. In CFS, there appears to be a faulty interplay...
@Barry098 Mine isn't from hearing loss. My ears are in perfect shape. I have Chiari Malformation and also took a low dose antianxiety that did me in. I still wear plugs if I'm mowing the lawn or excessively loud things. Maybe if I get surgery to fix my skull the tinnitus will go away? Who...
Hey @mrpetrov.
I got 7x 10 mg tablets from a friend in the USA. I tried them, and the next day my tinnitus seemed quieter. I wouldn't say they helped either way with anxiety, but maybe. The study used 30 mg/day. TCA-type medication, so check with your doctor if you take any other TCAs or...
