...hearing drop was just related to channels and not causing permanent damage, I would have continued.
I’m in an awkward predicament now because I felt that Gabapentin helped me by complementing Clonazepam and improving my sleep. However, I know if I go back to the GP, he’ll take me off Clonazepam.
I am surprised Clonazepam has any effect. When I tried taking it at 0.25 mg, I did not feel any different. Maybe it is because I stopped after two days since I saw no benefit. I did not take it to reduce tinnitus. I was using it to calm anxiety at the onset of tinnitus and for sleep assistance...
...I was only able to sleep after about 86 hours of being awake.
The next morning, I went to a neurologist who prescribed me 0.5 mg of Clonazepam at night to control the myoclonic jerks. I was scheduled to have an EEG but the lockdown hindered me. My neurologist was not replying to any of my...
...and control necessary when using a benzo.
I hear what you’re saying; time will tell! I’ve read several articles comparing Ativan and Clonazepam, and what I noted is that Clonazepam is not only more potent but also more widely used as an anticonvulsant than Ativan because of the specific...
I have a prescription for Ativan, but I find it does nothing for my tinnitus. Is there a possibility that Clonazepam could have an effect? I have a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday, so I can ask my doctor about it then.
@Cmspgran, how much Gabapentin do you take? Are these medications part of your daily routine?
Have you ever tried tapering off them? If so, what was your experience like?
...spike that just builds on itself. It gets to the point where you start wishing you’d never been born.
The problem is that you can’t always avoid a spike. When I do get one, I rely on my Clonazepam supply. It helps me suppress the spike, and with Clonazepam, I find it much easier to manage.
@Nick47, as you know, we are all different, which also means no two people will experience tinnitus the same. Clonazepam affects people differently. For some people, Clonazepam has no effect, while others find it helpful.
Last year, in February, my tinnitus changed dramatically, and I have no...

Regarding Dr. De Ridder, I respect him—he’s well-informed, articulate, and knowledgeable. However, he does have a habit of contradicting himself at times. With this in mind, I take much of what he says with a grain of salt. His advice and opinions on Clonazepam are all over the place.
Hi, looking for some advice. I have talked about this before on the forum.
I took Clonazepam .5mg to 1mg 6-7 times over 3 weeks and then took it continuously either .5 or 1mg for one week.
I’ve been tapering now for about 5 weeks. I started the taper at .75 since it was in between dose.
I’m...
@ErikaS I have always found a delayed reaction, where i take the clonazepam and 18-24 hours later the intensity drops. Quite a few report the same phenomenon.
@object16, do you take 0.5 mg of Clonazepam daily and use a higher dose during a spike? Also, do you take Carbamazepine as well?
I had a private conversation with Brian Fargo, who described Clonazepam as a “game changer,” although he mentioned it doesn’t work for everyone.
In the UK, I’m...
Yeah, Clonazepam has a longer half-life than Ativan, so a single dose keeps you under the influence of the medication for a longer period. However, because of the much longer effect, I would expect tolerance and dependency to develop more quickly if the doses are of the same potency and taken on...
...for me.
My psychiatrist mentioned that if Trileptal didn’t provide any benefits, the next step would be transitioning me from Ativan to Clonazepam. I’ve been taking Ativan daily since this all started two years ago, with a dosage of 0.5 mg in the morning and 0.5 mg in the evening. My...
Clonazepam did not provide any better or more relief to my tinnitus or reactivity, so after 3 1/2 weeks of trying it, I switched back to Ativan with no issues. Still .5mg in AM and .5mg in PM.
I have been taking Clonazepam 0.5 mg for about 2 weeks to help with sleep but decided not to continue because it was not really helping me. After trying to do a rapid taper my tinnitus went through the roof. So I went back up to my original dosage and started a slower taper at 0.125 mg for 5...
Interesting how Ativan has such an instant response after almost 18 months of use clonazepam is doing very little for me now, I can also relate to the memory loss, I word search all the time.
Hi everyone.
Long time reading this helpful forum but first post.
I was prescribed with Clonazepam (Rivotril) 0'25 mg three times/day, 2 weeks ago due to my anxiety problems and mild tinnitus mainly. It seems it doesn't lower my tinnitus level. So, after reading other posts, could be better to...
...read elsewhere that you used Xanax to help you while habituating. After my tinnitus worsened last year, my doctor prescribed me .5mg of Clonazepam once per night. I have been taking that now for a little over a year. I feel like I do not need it any longer and continuing to take it makes me...
Hello everyone! I just want to make sure I understand (English is not my first language). Does Clonazepam help by calming you down, or does it actually reduce the volume of your tinnitus?
Doctors are correct to be cautious with Clonazepam; the problem is, no one fully understands tinnitus or is eager to treat it. I found myself in a critical situation with my career in a different city when I experienced a severe spike in symptoms and went days without sleep. Fortunately, I knew...
@Nick47 your description of your last 3 years is a carbon copy of my last 18 months, it’s soul destroying. @ErikaS keep us posted on clonazepam progress, have you considered combining with low dose Gabapentin?
...me from time to time. It is maddening, but it has occurred so often that now I just fume for a while and then take a significant dose of Clonazepam to suppress the spike.
Usually, several days of a higher Clonazepam dose helps to bring the spike down. You could even get a prescription for...
Unfortunately, I don't live in a country where I can get to those services without a referral, so I'm left with my family doctor. However, she is more open to things lately but still is cautious, which I can appreciate.
I'm hoping the NAC hasn't caused damage, as I've read other people...
Past my 1 year tinnitus birthday with no big changes to it. I’m still on Zolpidem and clonazepam but working with my doctor to get off them. Hope I can still sleep cold Turkey
...but louder.
I've had tinnitus for 15 months or so in my left ear but I was habituated. Due to a different condition I begun to take Clonazepam 5 months ago. The first 3 months I was taking 0.25 mg (half a pill) and then 0.5 mg. I began withdrawal 20 days ago taking 0.375 mg (three quarters...
...Im still living the good days / bad days pattern. Some days my T seems to be more "maskable" than others...
The question is... Can I take Clonazepam for a short vacation period? I'm talking about 3, 4...5 days on. No more.
What about the dosage? I don't want to change the natural evolution...
So, I've been on clonazepam 0.5 mg for a about four months now, and am thinking it's time to taper off. My ENT said I could probably just stop because it's a low dose, but I don't think I want to do that.
I've read through the Ashton, although didn't find a specific taper schedule for 0.5...
A saw a spealist earlier this year who put me on 2mg clonazepam and 50mg amisulpride, he told me if I didn't see any improvements in 2 weeks to stop but he didn't explain why, I had no idea it was addictive. I took it for 2 months.
I saw my doctor a week a half ago who told me to stop taking it...
Normally, a TCA like Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline is paired with Flupentixol or Aripiprazole, Clonazepam or Gabapentin, and Magnesium or Vitamin B2. These are medical cocktails from Hamid Djalilian and Dirk De Ridder.
I've seen others on here take e.g., Deanxit and Clonazepam & Carbamazepine...
Friends,
I got tinnitus from a combination of Clonazepam and Amitriptyline. First, when I stopped Clonazepam, I got tinnitus that was somewhat bearable. Then, when I stopped Amitriptyline, it got three weeks after the last dose so so much worse. It's been now 6 months and the tinnitus is still...
@Michael Leigh, I have found Clonazepam to be vital. However, it sometimes takes up to 24 hours to reduce the intensity, and I find the effect lasts for about another 24 hours. The effect seems even more pronounced when I combine it with Deanxit.
...doses, you could fall without being able to protect yourself. I normally take 150 mg twice—once at night and again if I wake up around 2 or 3 AM.
Right now, I’m taking 450 mg of Pregabalin, 2 mg of Clonazepam, 125 mg of Seroquel, and 30 mg of Mirtazapine. All that does is put me to...
Xanax shouldn't be taken along with the large doze of Clonazepam he took, which is also a benzo, with a much longer half life than Xanax.
Mind over matter might work for stable mild to moderate tinnitus.
...the dosage carefully. You really have to do the same with any benzo. If you reach a point where you have to take enormous amounts of Clonazepam, you may need to taper. On the other hand, I've seen epileptics with myoclonia get up to 20 mg of Clonazepam, which is an enormous dose, but it works...
I will be switching to Clonazepam this coming Thursday. My psychiatrist suggested starting with a 0.5 mg dose at night in case it makes me noticeably sleepy. If it doesn’t, he said I could take it either in the morning or evening, depending on which time benefits me the most. He actually wrote...
...combines CBT, sound therapy, nutraceuticals, and medications.
Additionally, there’s the Shulman Protocol, which involves Gabapentin and Clonazepam, or Dirk De Ridder’s protocol, which includes Deanxit, Aripiprazole, Clonazepam, and sometimes LDN or Cyclobenzaprine. Some people find relief...
Agreed. I occasionally take 0.5 mg of Lorazepam, which has an equivalent potency to 0.25 mg of Clonazepam, and also a shorter half-life. I try to limit my usage to once per week because benzodiazepines can lead to very rapid tolerance. A dose of 0.75 mg of Clonazepam would be equivalent in...
...therapy for tinnitus control: preliminary report
That, based on brain imaging, argued that for some types of tinnitus the combination of Clonazepam and Gabapentin works. I have read that some forum members are on this combo, for example @linearb, @Carlos1 and a few others. I have also read...
...it’s honestly hard to say. I started taking it about 3 1/2 weeks ago, then the very next day got hit with awful upper respiratory viral infection that lasted for 14-15 days. Ears honestly held somewhat stable through all of that despite my awful spike in August that made me switch to clonazepam…
Hi all,
I am considering to discuss taking Clonazepam with my doctor, as a last resort. I want to try other things first, but since I am noticing a considerable reduction with Zolpidem, I think there is a good chance that same could happen with Clonazepam. It seems to work for quite many, but...
Hi my name is Christi. I had tinnitus for about four years now.
I was put on clonazepam to help calm down the ringing in both of my ears.
I had to change GP doctors since my other one is no longer in practice. He will not write a prescription for my clonazepam for the tinnitus in both ears...
I've recently tried Rivotril (Clonazepam) and it did reduce the loudness of my tinnitus. I'd say by 25-30%. I won't continue as I've pretty much habituated to it but I'll keep it in case of a major setback.
1 mg Clonazepam is pretty potent in itself, even more so alongside Ambien. It should work in the short term, but taking those benzos regularly always is a concern. I have Lorazepam 0.5 mg prescription for anxiety and don't take every day. It's about half potency of Clonazepam per mg.
