New to Tinnitus — I Think It's Smart Meter Related

The existence of tinnitus is caused by either noise (the most common), Meniere’s, ototoxicity or TMJ/neck issues. Perception of it may be caused by occlusion (e.g., ear infection/wax blockage) or by stress. Anything else causing it is nonsense.

New to Tinnitus — I Think It's Smart Meter Related

It is complete pseudoscience to claim that a smart meter causes tinnitus. Proper middle aged mom Facebook stuff.

Hyperacusis Is Not Always Permanent: After 6 Months of CBT and TRT, I'm Back to My Noisy Job

It doesn’t matter what health condition you’re in yourself, or indeed your opinions on how to treat the said condition. If you reply to someone’s health success story basically sh*tting all over their achievement in getting over it, you’re not being the good person.

People with New/Mild Tinnitus: You Are NOT Doomed to Be Like the Severe Cases Here!

DISCLAIMER: NONE OF WHAT FOLLOWS IS WRITTEN FROM ANY SORT OF MEDICAL QUALIFICATION, OR EXPERIENCE WITH SEVERE TINNITUS, HYPERACUSIS OR NOXACUSIS. IT’S JUST AN OPINION FROM A FAIRLY NEW, MILD CASE. A few people on here may recognise me, I posted a thread about my own condition a few months ago...

Things People Say When You Tell Them You Have Tinnitus

Same for me, when I first wake up and lie in bed I can barely hear it even when I listen for it. Then it’s like my brain fully calibrates and I’m back in hell.

Very relatable how the static buzzing is what gets you down. I would literally be doing fine now if it wasn’t for the horrific high pitched hiss that is much harder to mask

It's idiotic isn't it. The brain creating a sound for no useful reason, then proceeding to see that sound as something dangerous and important, leading your life to be ruined.

One of the people at the place I volunteer at often has days where she works from home. Told her about my T... turns out the reason why she's often not there is because she has bad pulsatile from a neuroma!

My Life-Ending Tinnitus Started After Sinus Infection

I'm in a similar situation as you (massive spike after a sinus infection), albeit much less time into it (1-2 months) and thankfully, my tinnitus is mostly bearable. But it is such a disgrace how long people in the UK have to wait to see any form of specialist about problems such as this...

Don't You Hate It When Noisy Motorbikes Go Past!

I would never wish tinnitus on anyone, but it does just seem so unfair, doesn't it. I live in London, so have to hear absolute dickheads on motorbikes (and also in modified cars) nearly every day. It just reeks of insecurity having to travel around making that much noise.

    Marijuana / Cannabis and Tinnitus

Weed always temporarily spikes my tinnitus - I now don't enjoy getting high because it always ends in a vicious cycle of anxiety/tinnitus that I'm sure many of you here are familiar with. But weed literally made my tinnitus audible before I had my big spikes that caused this condition to be a...

Somatic Tinnitus, Pulsatile (Partially) Tinnitus, and Distortions — I Cannot Deal with This

I have an ENT referral from my GP, but this being the NHS, I'm not sure exactly when I will see them. My GP very briefly looked inside my ears and said my right ear canal was slightly swollen. This made sense at the time, last week my right ear felt tight at times. This has since gone away...

Same, if I knew with certainty that mine was just going to stay the same I would be feeling so much better and on the road to habituation, but I know too well that anything could make it worse for a long time

Opposite for me, anything I do with my mouth/jaws will make it louder while I do that movement. I'm not sure my tinnitus is actually somatic caused though considering how many noise people also have that effect

My sister developed T (from loud noise when she was also ill) around 4-5 months before I had my big spikes. We've both had additional (treated) ear problems this last year too. There has to be some kind of curse.

Real-Time Reactive Tinnitus Goes Away Completely When Quiet?

This is very similar to my situation. In particular, yawning has always triggered a high-pitched buzz for me (albeit at varying volumes) that I noticed on a cognitive level but never thought for a second about. However, for me, a cold (or possibly COVID-19) made this much louder and more...

Somatic Tinnitus, Pulsatile (Partially) Tinnitus, and Distortions — I Cannot Deal with This

This will be a long read but I feel the need to describe my tinnitus and the time leading up to it as fully as possible. I am 20 years old and have a history (for my whole life) of easily clogged and uncomfortable sinuses. My mother mentioned the other day how when I developed a cold as a baby...
