Don’t tempt fate jazzer. I know how much you’re suffering with loud tinnitus. Mine is super loud many days too. But it’s not my only condition and not the worst. And I know how many suffer worse than me.

Life can subject human beings to many types of hell. Severe tinnitus is just one of them, if the person doesn't like noise. It's not a good idea to make assumptions about the suffering life can inflict on us.

This drug seems to have a mix of people saying it made their tinnitus worse or caused it vs made it better.

I’m aware all this is very selfish during the coronavirus outbreak. It may be tasteless but it is sad when people die who have everything to live for and those who would welcome death carry on.

Absolutely it can go away and even if it doesn’t it can fade to nonproblematic lower levels. As the advice goes, most important thing is to ignore it.

I know this is absolutely not the case for everyone but amongst those I’m aware of who got tinnitus around the same time as me there seems to be a big link between the those who had little non tinnitus stress in their lives and the noise going down.

I did an absolutely massive amount of research into this when I first got it. There is absolutely no doubt that it gets quieter for lots of people and goes away for a proportion in the first year or two. Even on occasion after that though it’s rarer.

If you’re only four weeks in there is still a good chance it’s going to get much quieter and even go away.

I’ve often wondered which is worse, tinnitus or depression. Depends entirely on the severity. I’d say severe depression is actually worse than very loud tinnitus. But loud tinnitus, if you’re not wired to cope with it, can play such havoc with your life. They are very similar in many ways too.

The thing that really scared me is something slightly similar but not as bad happened to me five years ago and I never got over it. So I don’t think it’s going to go away, the grief. Absolutely without question the ringing can recede in many people. If I were you I would protect your ears and avoid music as long as you can manage it to give them the best chance of recovery.

Just for information I was on nortriptyline for headache when I got tinnitus and I would say the volume reduced when I came off the drug, a few months after getting tinnitus. And that’s one of the ones they use in tinnitus.

I think we had this chat before Pete. I’m really sorry but many people would not say how old they were. It’s hard to say how bad the noise was but yes maybe it would tend to be the milder cases that are more likely to remit.
