Hi @Strawberryblonde! Yes, things are still going well on my side. H pain has mostly subsided and still T fluctuates but is much easier to manage than at onset. Still being careful and protecting my ears when necessary. Happy to hear you're doing OK too!
Hi @makeyourownluck :) nice to hear from you! I have indeed been able to enjoy music again for the last few months, which I'm super thankful for. I'm listening to a few of your latest posts on the music thread, great stuff as always.
I'm happy to read that things are better on your side too <3...
Thanks for the information, I'll look into a pair of Earasers as a complement to my custom earplugs then. The occlusion effect in mine is as you describe: way better than foam earplugs but still significant.
I'll keep this thread updated when I get the Earasers!
I am less experienced with tinnitus and hyperacusis then @Benjaminbb and @MindOverMatter but I definitely agree with both their posts. The key is to find a balance between protection and exposure, and that is unfortunately something you will have to figure out for yourself as everyone is...
I remember doing a bit of research on them and finding out that the most dampening model is the "night" one. Pros actually dampen a bit less than the regular model.
I've been cross-country skiing a lot in this Canadian winter. It's a great sport: a full-body, low-impact workout practiced in the calm of nature. It's been helping me a lot mentally with my condition.
Hey @Strawberryblonde, thanks for the message :) I've been managing pretty well since the new year. Back working, and seeing a therapist regularly which has helped a lot with the mental aspect of the condition. Tinnitus and ear pain are still present, although the latter has been getting better...
I hope the audiologist is right! But there's really no way for anyone to know at this point. I totally agree about the feeling of dread... I still remember how my heart sank the day the OTO-313 results came out.
@Mister Muso I'm coming up on 10 months since my initial acoustic trauma. Doing better than I was last summer but ways away from live music still. Happy to hear that you're able to have some musical projects going! Wishing you continued improvement.
Yes, teaching and completing PhD studies at the same time sounds quite stressful and demanding! Sounds like you are handling it just fine though :) my PhD is in international environmental law. I will be teaching the masters level class this semester, which means a smaller group. I'm happy about...
Congratulations! And good luck on the remaining half. I defended my PhD two weeks before onset...not sure if I would have been able to write my thesis with the problems I have now. I'm getting ready to teach my first class as a lecturer this week. Very stressed but also excited!
Having had three intratympanic shots over three weeks, I'd argue that once a week would make me think twice about it. Especially given the fact that the more holes pierced in your eardrum, the higher the risk of an adverse event.
As slide 7 on Frequency Therapeutics' corporate presentation illustrates, FX-322 reaches mostly the outermost portion of the cochlea, which is the zone responsible for hearing very high frequencies (between 8 kHz and 20 kHz). So I don't see a reason for it not be effective for someone who only...
I wish I could tell you what was going on with your fluctuations, but this stuff is so different from person to person. From what I've read on here, fluctuations are usually a good sign, especially if you get moments of (relative) calm. For my part the tones and reactivity started improving...
I remember my symptoms taking a few days to settle down after my second shot too. I wouldn’t worry too much for the time being. Sending good vibes your way!
That's a very interesting detail you highlighted here. There's a significant difference between this drug and XEN1101/Trobalt, and that is that the latter also affect GABA receptors. As many users' testimonials have highlighted, GABA-affecting substances (benzos, alcohol...) seem to help with...
I'm inclined to believe the chances of Kv7 modulators helping with tinnitus are bigger than "a glitch in the matrix", but you're right about us once again having to hitch a ride on something designed primarily for another condition. This seems to be a recurring theme with potential...
I met Emily Haines while on a snowboard trip to Whistler! Pretty sure I have a picture of it somewhere, I’ll try and find it. I was definitely starstruck when I took that picture with her as a teenager.
@Nadia231 I'm really sorry to hear that, and hope you find some stability eventually. Crossing my fingers that this change of approach helps you. We're here for you if you need us!
@Nadia231 Of course, I always still protect in noisy situations and avoid very loud situations, but I feel more in control when I frame it this way. I'm also lucky that my T has been stable and (mostly) non-reactive.
@Nadia231 That's the attitude I'm going with. My H pain has been stable in the sense that I've been getting better at knowing what triggers it and the pain level / duration following exposure. So I frame my pain as similar to soreness / hangovers. It's a signal to rest.
@ErikaS Happy to hear the injection wasn't too painful! Every time I got the shot, my T increased temporarily and the tone became sharper. But that always subsided within 24-48h. I blamed it on the fact that my ear was blocked (with the liquid cortisone).
Had a series of 3 shots about the same time after onset as you. Not sure it helped much, but no worsening! Uncomfortable procedure but worth a try imo.
@Hamspanner, @AndrewLee, sorry to hear about your COVID-19 induced tinnitus. Have you two gotten your hearing tested since? Could it be that the virus led to hearing loss?
Frequency Therapeutics has uploaded their latest presentation slides to their website.

I'm experiencing 100% of my symptoms in my right ear, which has a 30 dB notched hearing loss around 6 kHz. Today, 6 months after onset, my left ear still feels normal just as it did all my life (knock on wood it stays like this!)
Very interesting article. This passage appears specifically interesting to me:
Could SSRIs/SNRIs then cause or worsen hyperacusis by increasing central gain?
The way I see it, the fluctuation could signal a slow and uneven settling down of your symptoms after your spike at the concert. Hang in there! And happy holidays to you and your family <3
@MindOverMatter @ZFire @aura Thanks for the positive comments guys. Working hard with my therapist to accept and move on, but it's difficult. What gets me the most is the several brief moments a day where I realize I don't understand speech around me the way I used to. I've always prided myself...
Hi @MindOverMatter, sorry I just saw your comment now. Yes, I have met with several audiologists and neurootologists over the last few months. I have tried everything I could including intratympanic steroids. I am now trying to slowly desentize as per my audiologist's recommendations. The...
