Toddler Screamed Nearby → My Right Ear Feels Full & Slightly Distorted

It was a scream that finished me off and basically ruined my life over three years ago now with zero improvement. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but screams can be deafening. The best thing you can do is keep away from loud noises and protect your ears as much as possible. I hope it...

How Do You Manage Restaurants with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis?

I think a lot of it is that ‘what if’ mentality. What if a child screams in the restaurant. What if someone accidentally drops a load of crockery. What if an alarm goes off. Even the sound of 2 glasses colliding is uncomfortable... not fun.

How Do You Manage Restaurants with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis?

Honestly, this is me as well! I’ve started giving people wooden disposable cutlery on the odd occasions I have people round. Thankfully they are understanding. Can’t go to any of my kids' school events, parties etc. I’m 3 years in with zero improvement. How long have you been this way...

Girlfriend Screamed at Top of Voice a Few Meters from Me When We Had an Argument

I had a very similar situation and over 2.5 years later it is still as bad as it was, life changing. So for @DeepakB to say spikes are not permanent, he lives in cuckoo land. Your best bet is to try and avoid any more traumas and give your ears the best chance to heal. If there’s a chance your...

Can You Advise Re: Reactive Morse Code-Like Beeping?

Hello lovely people. I am wondering if anyone can offer any kind of advice and relate to what I am currently experiencing. To keep it brief, I have had noise-induced tinnitus for years but it was made life changing after an acoustic trauma around 2 years ago, mainly in my left ear. Around 5...

Even with Severe OCD, Tinnitus Is Beatable

I have noticed you have a constant tendency to come on to any kind of 'positive' post just to bring your negativity to it. You cannot comprehend the fact that people with very bad tinnitus can actually get to a point where they can enjoy their life again. You also cannot comprehend that anyone...

Link Between High Psychological Tension, Tensor Tympani Muscle, Hyperacusis and Tinnitus

I’ve had a pretty good day on the whole with my hyperacusis but having just had a stressful hour with my family it’s just flared up. Came onto Tinnitus Talk and this is the first post I see. I’m noticing it more and more that it’s triggered by these kinds of episodes. Not all the time but I’d...

Just Another Person Who Was at a Very Loud Concert and Got Tinnitus + Hyperacusis

I’m in a similar position to yourself. Sounds like you’re doing the right things but it does indeed suck to not be able to do things we once loved. There are however so many other hobbies and interests out there to be discovered that can easily fill the void. Stay strong and stay positive...

Will You Get Vaccinated for Coronavirus (COVID-19)? Can It Make Tinnitus or Hyperacusis Worse?

I have had COVID-19 twice and have not had a vaccine. I assumed that by having it, I would have built up a natural vaccine so to speak. Is this not the case from what you have read? I doubt it would sway me anyway, I do not trust those making these vaccines at all!

Recovery from Acoustic Shock? Looking for Success Stories

I am fairly confident my tinnitus was caused by general loud noise from all walks of life. I also understand the worry of having young ones as I also do. Protect, but don't over protect. Even this evening my ears feel more sensitive and I cannot really pinpoint a reason for this. I imagine the...

Recovery from Acoustic Shock? Looking for Success Stories

I had a similar experience to you over 18 months ago and can say I’ve had no real improvement. That’s not to say you won’t. As the person above said, we’re all different. Being careful as to not further damage the ears is the main thing I would say.

How Often to Get Earwax Cleaned If You Must Sleep with Earplugs?

I recently had my ears irrigated and I also suffer from hyperacusis. I was dreading doing it but really had no option. I tried manual removal which I found too uncomfortable so went for the irrigation. I can’t say it made any difference. I was just super careful for a few days as everything...

Will You Get Vaccinated for Coronavirus (COVID-19)? Can It Make Tinnitus or Hyperacusis Worse?

I didn’t get vaccinated at all. I’ve had COVID-19 twice and fought it off twice. I wasn’t going to get brainwashed into getting it (although they did almost get me :))

I agree hence why am in the process of starting up my own business in something I know will be a lot quieter. Hearing Aid Options for Tinnitus from the NHS (UK)

I found the NHS very good for hearing aids. And whilst my audiologist, who was trying to sell me some at a high price, said it would take forever to obtain on the NHS, I had them within a month. Just push for them.

My Odd Case of Tinnitus — I Started Hearing It After Someone Mentioned They Have It

I’ve had tinnitus for a good 15/20 years. Never bothered me really. When I think of how I continued to abuse my ears with loud music I could slap myself (I don’t in case I spike lol). I didn’t realise how much worse it could get. Then one big loud exposure lasting less than 5 seconds 2 years ago...

My Odd Case of Tinnitus — I Started Hearing It After Someone Mentioned They Have It

Funny you say that, I often speak with both my uncle and cousin and whenever the subject of tinnitus comes up, they contact me shortly after to say they now have ringing in their ears. Before my tinnitus worsening, I used to be able to tune in if I wanted to and then tune out again. It just...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

I have a book on mindfulness that I have not properly delved into yet. I do have hyperacusis so it is interesting you say it cannot help with that. I am hoping sound enrichment will continue to help in some way. I guess mine is slightly better than it was a year ago. When you add kids into the...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

I was going to come back with all the struggles with my tinnitus and also in my life but have decided against it. It's not a competition and I am not here for sympathy, rather for support and to speak to like minded people. Sounds like you have given up and that's your choice. Each to their own.

Can Listening to Tinnitus in Silence Help Me Come to Terms with It?

I've had tinnitus for around 15+ years but was exposed to a loud noise around 2 years ago. It hasn't changed since! I still try to hold out some hope that it may improve even slightly but it is a horrible condition that is with me 24/7.

Can Listening to Tinnitus in Silence Help Me Come to Terms with It?

I definitely agree with the not looking tinnitus up for a bit. My tinnitus is also unmaskable now. I often spike reading about tinnitus lol. Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

It's interesting as I woke up half an hour ago from a good sleep and feeling fairly positive. I know the ringing will always be here and I will forever have to be vigilant. But as soon as I read your reply, the volume in my ear went up and has been since. This time it can only be mental. I...

Hi all, Have been on this forum for a long time but never posted. I work in the construction industry which I guess is a tinnitus nightmare in itself. However, I am rarely around sounds louder than 90 dB and I always use my Peltor ear defenders onsite. I also try to take regular breaks...
