Developed Acute Tinnitus Six Weeks Ago — Wondering What My Options Are. Thank You.

I'm not totally out of the woods, mentally. Even now I still have infrequent periods where I am more annoyed - bordering on worry - about if my tinnitus is worsening or not. In the last 2 weeks I've been on Amitriptyline for gastric issues. Even though the dose is relatively small (50 mg), I...

Increase in volume? Decrease? I can't say for certain. When my tinnitus first started I could hear it while driving on the highway. It is still that loud, but "mentally" it is not so loud, it seems to fade into the background when I am doing anything.

I wouldn't say it was entirely habituation. I needed therapy as well as time. It's still an annoyance for me as well as something I need to be worried about constantly with regards to potentially making it worse via loud noise or medication. However, moving back to the suburbs has made the...

Apologies for bringing this old thread back from the grave. I haven't been back here for a year and a half at least. I figured I should do a five year anniversary post but forgot at some point. It's been six years for me. Kind of amazed I'm still here, the first two years were so difficult and...

Connection Between Worsened Tinnitus and Phentermine (Adipex-P)?

You think it's possible that the combination of both medications led to a perceived increase in tinnitus volume? I've not had issues with one or the other in the past.

Top Treatments to Consider in the Early Days After Onset

No, I was not. An ENT saw me shortly after developing tinnitus and when I asked her if there was anything she could do, she only shook her head. A year later I asked her why she didn't give me prednisone and she said it was because emotionally, I was a wreck, and she didn't want to make things...

Lenire — Bimodal Stimulation Treatment by Neuromod

@Lurius, @GlennS, I mean this with as much respect as humanly possible, but guys, we're talking about medical professionals here. Any time a person in their care so much as mentions suicide or the possibility of no longer continuing life, the programming kicks in. They can't exactly ignore a...

Connection Between Worsened Tinnitus and Phentermine (Adipex-P)?

Hi people. Long time no see. I've been taking Phentermine to help with weight loss (also known as Adipex-P) since May 18 and twice now had noticeable increases in tinnitus. The first time coincided with a day of louder than normal activities, so I did not consider Phentermine to be the cause of...

Apologies if this isn't the place to do it. I haven't monitored this thread in close to two and a half years. Can anyone point me to the post(s) that give some of the more current information, what we know, about Lenire? It seems like they are continuing to do trials but are not seeking FDA...

They've been doing trials with this exact type of "therapy" for almost 25 years. It really helped me! But no, they're not selling it or anything like that. I'm not sure where I would even start. Always ignore the doctors when they say you have "normal" hearing. Normal hearing in the US is up to 25 dB lost, which is very noticeable. I personally have 15 dB across most frequencies and quite noisy tinnitus. Yes, the Prednisone is rarely, if ever, permanently effective if taken after the...

Sorry to resurrect this dead thread. I've been away for a while. Would I purchase one of these devices? Probably but there are some serious downsides, at least for me. One of my devices was probably damaged at some point and when it picked up the tiniest bit of wind noise it would create a...

So, big correction I have to make. I still have hyperacusis. That much is obvious. However, I went in for my final test this last week and the difference was dramatic. In all fields I had between a 10 and 25 dB increase in all thresholds. I am waiting for more official results but this was what...

Wait, did it go away or was it habituation? As in, that 4 year period where you said you didn't have it. I'm encouraged by the speed of medical progress but "a year or two" is a little optimistic when you consider the length of FDA trials. I've already had tinnitus over two years.

That's not very encouraging. I know people three times my age who either don't have tinnitus or have it but are apparently unbothered. Does Combining Earplugs and Earmuffs Give More Protection?

I personally recommend wearing high end ear plugs (the ones that offer 30+ NRR db). The muffs will add protection on top of that, and that's what I do for most loud things, but I would prefer to not wear muffs to a wedding my own friend has told me will not be loud
