I took one capsule of Valerian root two days ago and I had a very slight spike the next day and today my tinnitus is even slightly louder. Doesn’t make sense. May be coincidental. I know Valerian root is not shown to cause tinnitus spikes.

Metoprolol along with other beta blockers are ototoxic. Do your research before you take any meds. I am sure there are good meds without ototoxic side effects.

Beautiful message. Thanks for sharing. I have had a spike since 12-1-21 after taking a statin for one month. It’s been few days but these were darkest days of my life. What helped me was counseling by therapist. I would say repeat mantra “AUm Namah shivay”and it helped me a few times to go to sleep.

Have you tried therapy? I have learned that mild tinnitus can get worse because we just keep thinking about it. That has been true for me.

Can you please clarify again? Is your tinnitus still as loud as when you had the panic attacks, but it’s not bothering you as much nowadays? You can hear it over TV or everyday conversation and it’s not bothering you?

Update: My tinnitus tone has been changing and now I have a whistle. It’s loud and annoying but no way close to unbearable level it was when it started. It’s weird that time has been changing it. I had somewhat quiet few hours in the last 2-3 days.

My LDL is little bit high. I feel like an idiot taking statins! I should have researched more. There are other cholesterol meds as well which are safer.

I am in the same situation. I took statins for 1 month and my tinnitus that has been quiet for 10 years has come back with full vengeance. Did your spike subside? Was it a permanent spike?

I don’t know if Turmeric would help out. You can’t go wrong with taking pure Turmeric powder once a day in a limited quantity.

There are studies done that shows mindfulness meditation significantly reduces anxiety caused by tinnitus. I wonder how many Tinnitus Talk members have tried meditation and their lives have changed for the better?

Can someone give insight on tinnitus and statin use? It just doesn’t make any sense that one month use of statin can cause a tinnitus spike. IV drugs spiking tinnitus makes sense but these are oral drugs and I took them only for a month.

I will give meditation a try again with white noise in the background. It can definitely teach you how not to react to tinnitus or any other stressor. People have claimed in the past that they have very high tinnitus but after practicing meditation they have learned to ignore it.

I took Viagra 25 mg a few times 5-6 years ago and had just very minimum temporary tinnitus spike. I am going to hit 50 soon and I am scared to take it now. I rather be sexless than having permanent tinnitus spike. I really doubt it will cause a permanent tinnitus spike though.
