It's still possible that your tinnitus could ease once you've reduced or stopped taking Prozac. And if you do need to take an AD, perhaps another type may be gentler on the ears.

@Ctw -- Prozac is known to be ototoxic, so it seems likely it's causing your tinnitus to spike. It's done so with many others on this forum. Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. You may want to reconsider taking it. You may also want to check out a post on some of the history of...

Like Prozac, paroxetine (Paxil) is an SSRI antidepressant. Since the two drugs are so closely related, if Prozac did not adversely affect your tinnitus, it is very unlikely that Paxil will. If for some reason it does, your tinnitus should settle back down upon cessation of the Paxil. Just...

Sorry to hear all this, but there are a lot of promising treatments in the making, a few of them involve the healing of hearing loss. If you look in the Research News and Treatments section you will find interesting and promising information.

Prozac may not be the right antidepressant for you. Give it a little more time, and see how it goes. Most people have to try a few different types, before sticking with one that works.
