The plan was to go from 40 mg to 20 mg over 6 months. However, if I decide to come off of Prozac completely I would go from 20 mg to 0 mg over a number of years. It's the last bit that takes forever. Not sure what to do yet.

T or worsening of T can be side effects of both prozac and buspar. That does not mean they are the culprit, but it is a possibility.

@bandit0524 , Try steam inhalation and take Sudafed to clear your tubes. Prozac could have caused it and as your brain adjusts it should settle down again. Keep posting for support...love glynis

Ken, did you find they lost effectiveness with time or not? Klonopin worked for me for two weeks and then it seems to do nothing but if I try to reduce it... boom!

I'm wavering on a few medications for anti-depressants after Prozac seemingly spiked mine. A friend of mine takes Lithium for anxiety and she said it's helped reduce her tinnitus to a much better level. I'm curious if anyone has experience with lithium in relation to tinnitus?

I just found out Cymbalta is an SNRI not an SSRI. Prozac is an SSRI. Lyica is an anti-convulsant similar in effect to a benzodiapines with less risk of dependancy. BuSpar is some kind of mood stabilizer.

@linearb I've been on Prozac and Xanax for 25 years. I found this to be beneficial for me to tolerate tinnitus. Even on the cocktail I do have spikes but I do stick with it. The formula has allowed me to keep a job, finish a career and deal better. I do not suggest this will work for everyone...

That's what CBT is really for, depression, anxiety, phobias etc. Not distress from actual physical diseases.

If I could go back in time I would have taken CBT over going on Prozac, which has led to me getting tinnitus. But I know what you mean!!

No I am not crazy and most of those medications make tinnitus worse for people in the long run.

I would stop it! An SSRI and/or a betablocker brought on my T. I would really stick with the other methods if you can.

Take the Prozac and let it start to work. It will take a few weeks as you know. If you're worried about the klonopin. Speak with your doctor and get the doc to speak with your mum about it and explain the drug.

I tried Paroxetine and it did calm me, but it did not do anything in terms of hearing perception (hyperacusis or tinnitus wise). I tried Paroxetine because after developing severe hyperacusis I was still going around with naked ears, without any hearing protection, just trying to navigate...

I have Lyrica. I am going to stay on that for a while. I am fine other then I have panic and anxiety. I am not depressed at all. They wanted to give me Prozac or Buspar when I got off the Cymbalta.

ADs should definitely be used as a last resort. But doctors seem to be handing them out like candy on Halloween. @Lane would most likely be the perfect person to talk to as far as getting off them and trying alternatives?
