Studies Confirm Tinnitus Improves Over Time

High strung, obsessive type over here! I've had screaming, insanely loud tinnitus for just over seven years now. There is no way it has improved over time. It has demonstrably gotten worse. In saying that, for want of a better analogy, you just have to learn to cope with it. My ears are...

    Hello from Brisbane, Australia

You said it, @coldroses. I might as well have told the few medical practitioners I've spoken to about tinnitus and its profound impact on my life that I'd just landed here from Mars, given their baffled response.

    G'day from Brisbane, Australia

Hi all. My apologies for not checking back on this thread for what appears to have been several months. Unfortunately I've still got raging tinnitus. Seems I'm not the only one!

Yeah, I take it every night. Haven't noticed much (any?) change in my tinnitus. Helps me get to sleep, though.

Should I Cancel My Trip Abroad?

I just came back from 12-days in Japan. Couldn't have had more fun if I tried. Weirdly enough, the whole time I was over there I barely noticed my tinnitus (and mine is loud).

    Hope for Those Who Believe

I suppose the implication is that there's no hope for those who don't believe... But perhaps just as chuckle-worthy is how arbitrary the list of tinnitus causes always seems to be. "I was walking past a babbling brook on a moonless night three days beyond the winter solstice, when an owl in...

Why Is DTL Following the TRT Lies?

If only this were true for everyone. My tinnitus is not louder in volume because of my perception. It's louder in volume because it got louder. As a naturally analytical person, it always surprises me how many tinnitus sufferers wish to deny this possibility. Perhaps it's because, deep down...

    Hello I'm New

G'day Brittany. I'm from Sydney originally. It's definitely difficult to get people to understand this condition. I had to explain my symptoms at length to my GP, who admitted he had no idea about tinnitus. Your tinnitus sounds a lot like mine, in that I can hear mine over everything and often...

    Tinnitus Suffering as a Phobia

But in your subject line you called tinnitus suffering "a phobia" - ie. a fear of something. And aversion (ie. a strong dislike) and irritation (the state of feeling annoyed) are almost synonyms. I think you'd very much like to believe your hypothesis. And you use a lot of rhetoric to try and...

    Tinnitus Suffering as a Phobia

You are wrong. I'm not scared of the ringing in my ears. It's not fear that causes irritation. It's the volume of my tinnitus.

The Next Time Someone Doesn't Sympathize with Your Tinnitus Suffering, Maybe You Should Do This

Why do they need to? I'm sure my girlfriend gets period pain every month, but I don't find myself punching my stomach, or giving myself nosebleeds, to prove that I can empathise. What difference would it make? I'm all for raising awareness to help prevent people from getting tinnitus - it...

    Tinnitus Suffering as a Phobia

I reckon I could give it a go. I used to suffer from mild tinnitus. I was aware it was there, but since it never bothered me, I never did anything about it. Now I have a more severe form of tinnitus, almost certainly brought about because I didn't heed the warning signs of my much milder...

What Is Life Worth without Hearing Normally?

Hey @jdjd09, instead of asking questions which can't be feasibly answered on here, why don't you go and ask some questions of a therapist? Maybe when you get some of your mental health issues in order, you'll find it much easier to cope with your hearing issues. Just a thought.

Hard to believe you can say this as an Iceland fan?! It's like... I can almost believe it if you were a fan of a team in the English Premier League. What with your teams being handed their dignity to them on a daily basis, unable to win even the simplest of UEFA Champions League ties. But...

    2 Million Incapacitated?

Just my two cents, but I think there's some fundamental misunderstandings of human psychology going on in this thread. For example, my tinnitus is almost certainly a product of my own lifestyle (ie. stupidity). Why would I - a person with a postgraduate degree - want to broadcast to my friends...

Hi @Tamika. You're right about it being a beautiful day! I'm in Brisbane and the weather is glorious outside today. Everyone is (obviously) different when it comes to dealing with tinnitus, but as for mine... I kind of just shrug my shoulders and bear it. It sucks - I can hear mine over...

I used to work as a journalist for the ABC here in Australia, so I'm well aware of the tenets such outlets supposedly pride themselves on. My point is; The Telegraph doesn't have to do any of the things you've suggested. Indeed, as we can see, they haven't. What they've done is is run an...

Curious Views on Tinnitus in Russia

I used to live in and work in Japan... a country that has, for better or worse, true universal health care. When I explained to my dentist the reason I was getting my wisdom teeth removed over there was because it would cost me thousands of dollars to do the same thing in Australia, he was...

Why Do Serious Newspapers Post Rubbish About Tinnitus?

But it is a business. The only reason The Telegraph exists is to sell newspapers. And journalists, like any other professionals, need to be paid. It's a lofty ideal to believe anything else, but unfortunately it doesn't quite match the reality.
  42. Mike82

Why Do Serious Newspapers Post Rubbish About Tinnitus?

Indeed. But you read that article on the internet for free, right? You didn't contribute any funds to The Telegraph so that they may produce better journalism? That's not your fault; it's the business model the media propagates.

Former Musician with Tinnitus Moving Into Possibly Hellish Situation

Conner, I hope you're doing okay with your living circumstances. Denied Participation in Hyperbaric-Based Study Because of Tinnitus

Denied Participation in Hyperbaric-Based Study Because of Tinnitus

Hi all. Just thought I'd share an interesting experience I recently had here in Australia. So a couple of months back I applied for a university study on Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. New and Scared for My Life

Xanax is different, as it's a benzodiazepine. I take Valium from time to time when the ringing in my ears is particularly loud, but I don't take it regularly and it's not an SSRI like Mirtazapine.

What Jobs Can You Do with Tinnitus?

I do the same job (I'm a copywriter) that I did before I got tinnitus. I realise that it's a very different situation for a musician, but for me, I don't see why I would change jobs because of a ringing in my ears.

New and Scared for My Life

This kind of catastrophic thinking isn't overly helpful. It's been two days. For me, it's been over nine months since I developed a noticeable ringing in my ears. During that time I've done everything the same as I had done before; I've gone to my job, I've travelled overseas and interstate...

    A Little Perspective

A lot of very salient points in this thread. I'd like to thank Dr Ancill for bringing it up. I remember when I went and saw an audiologist after my tinnitus went through the roof, I was sitting on a chair in her office as she was talking about hearing aids, and I simply burst into tears and...

    Please Help: Ototoxic-Induced Tinnitus, Benadryl-Related

My doctor prescribed me Mirtazapine and now I sleep like a rock. I also drop a .5mg Valium from time to time whenever it's all getting too much. The latter is, of course, addictive... so I simply don't take them too often. Neither have lowered the volume, so to speak, but both have helped in...

Tick, tick, tick, tick. At least we know we're not the only ones! My hearing is actually rubbish (a lifetime of obliterating it listening to punk music through headphones) but I can sure hear that insanely high-pitched dog whistle! Oddly enough, I'm slightly relieved to hear you say that you...
