    New to Tinnitus

Count yourself lucky. You hear it only in silence. You will easily get used to it and start ignoring it in a few weeks time. Honestly. Don't force yourself to listen out for it. Take your mind away when you start obsessing. I hear mine above all sounds, even heavy traffic. But... I can now once...

There's a Link Between Serotonin and Tinnitus

Hi @FrankfurtMan or should I say, grüß dich serotonin levels cannot be measured. It has not been established scientifically that people who are depressed have low serotonin levels. It has only been inferred based on the observation that people with anxiety and depression seem to be responding to...

Those Who Have Had Tinnitus for at Least 1 Year: Does It Get Better at What % Rate?

I believe mine is extreme to profound. Before my latest increase it was moderate to severe but never cared about it as I did not hear it. when I first developed T I thought everyone could hear theirs over traffic and other noises. But in terms of loudness, I must be in the minority :confused...

    Dare to Hope or Not?

Try not to worry. Your t seems loud to you now, but if you cannot hear it over the tv, you will habituate to it in time. There is also a pretty good chance it will fade into insignificance over the next few months. Either way, protect your ears from now on but dont overprotect. You will be good.

How Long Have You Gone Not Thinking About Your Tinnitus?

Before april of this year I wouldnt hear it for 99% of the time. Only if I decided to listen out for it. This was despite the fact that I could hear it, even in noisy environments.

Fresh From The Press: Hearing Loss Treatment...

Interesting. I think "snake oil" when I read a website like this. Funny url, funny email addresses. Let's see some clinical trials that it actually works and not just some case report, then I would pay up... that is after robbing a bank to pay for the treatment, naturally :)

    The Noise That Kills

This forum is a blessing. You guys are SO supportive and f*** those that say these boards do nothing but create suicidal ideation for those on it. You are all champions. I get such a warm feeling from reading all your supportive posts to DannyBoy. I think most of us who develop severe, intrusive...

Watching Interstellar Without Ear Plugs — Big Mistake — Advice Appreciated

@ampumpkin , thank you for sharing your story. I would have been able to write the same story until three weeks ago. Tinnitus came into my life in 2011, habituated 100% in a years time. first major crisis in april this year, due to first noise exposure. Got my act together and participated in a...

Loud Movie Last Night — Screaming Tinnitus Today. Will It Return to Baseline?

I wrote a thread about the exact same issue and the exact same movie. I saw it without plugs and took severe punishment. Louder T. It has been a couple of weeks now. It has not returned to baseline. But I had a similar noise exposure back in april. Took a good three months for it to come down to...

Hi Everyone... Please Help Me Out.

Hmm... tinnitus some believe, is thought to be the result of abnormal firing in the brain of neurons that no longer receive input from the auditory cortex. Neurons in the auditory cortex simply start firing, first in random patterns, but after a while, it stabilizes in the brain and become a...

    Does Everyone Habituate?

I also believe habituation is entirely possible. Even to loud ringing. But it is not the same as not being able to hear it. Habituation is not reacting to it, even when I do hear it. That is my new habituation goal. I used to have habituated to the perception of it as well. Not possible anymore...

Hi Everyone... Please Help Me Out.

Hi, sorry to hear about that. What a hassle to go through. First of all, I am NO EXPERT, so please mind this fact in what I write. I am not sure about the perforation - tinnitus association. You say you have no hearing loss associated with it. In theory, a hearing loss as a result of a...

    alan d.

I agree with @Lorenzo74 . right now you are in turmoil and only three months in. I am myslef in a worse place than a few weeks ago due to recent noise exposure. But my message to you is the same as Lorenzo74. You are only three months in and looking for that cause or cure that will take all the...

Watching Interstellar Without Ear Plugs — Big Mistake — Advice Appreciated

@Ken219 thanks mate. I know to not go down the blame route. Perhaps I tend to forget the suffering that comes before habituation. Today I went for a long bike ride in the sun (only 4 degrees but Denmark IS cold) and came home feeling more optimistic. I recognise this pattern and perhaps I am not...

Watching Interstellar Without Ear Plugs — Big Mistake — Advice Appreciated

Thank you guys for all the comments. I did not see any lifted fingers or moral preaching in there. Thank you. I also believe it may subside a little in time. I do have a spike theory when stress and anxiety is involved. I work for one of the world's leading hearing aid manufacturer, Oticon...

Watching Interstellar Without Ear Plugs — Big Mistake — Advice Appreciated

Hey LeQuack, did you ever truly habituate? I remember mine being screamingly loud initially back in 2011. I could literally hear it over anything. It seemed to subside eventually into the background and definitely became quieter. I hope this happens again, although I do not kid myself into...

Watching Interstellar Without Ear Plugs — Big Mistake — Advice Appreciated

Hi, my name is Martin. 42 years old from the Kingdom of Denmark. I have had tinnitus since 2011 and after a good year of troublesome thoughts, anxieties etc I totally habituated to the point of tinnitus being NO concern. Fast forward three years. Two episodes of noise exposure has left me with...
