Extreme Anxiety & Depression, My Body Is Restless & Fatigued, Antidepressants Make My Tinnitus Worse

You could try some Lorazepam just to give yourself a break. But please be very careful as they are a nightmare to get off if you become dependent... which sadly is much easier than you might think.

Exostosis (Surfer's Ear) Contributing to Tinnitus

No but I'd like to know too - right ear is 90% narrowed and my tinnitus is like a cranial sandstorm.

What Exactly Does Your "Pulsatile Tinnitus" Sound Like...?

Mine is a high frequency pulsating hiss which has grown with intensity over the last 5 years. One increase was major after I attended a long music show. I also have been experiencing vertigo and my ears have developed an internal pressure which seems to be directly wired to the T.

How Did People Cope with Tinnitus in the Olden Days?

I was thinking how I probably would not be here anymore if it wasn't for some modern inventions like my tablet which I use to access masking apps on the internet or the pharmaceuticals which saved me when I was unable to sleep for weeks. How did people with tinnitus cope in earlier times...

    Benzodiazepine with Least Side Effects?

Lorazepam (Ativan) works well for me but I am wary of becoming dependent. Reduces anxiety to manageable levels and consequently reduces tinnitus annoyance factor. Also really helps with getting a few hours sleep when I am a complete wreck.

Episode 3: Tinnitus, The Musician's Curse? — CJ Wildheart

Andy Partridge from XTC (a brilliant UK New Wave band) is another guy with severe tinnitus. He attributes it to a sound engineer running a high level tone accidentally into his cans. Of note is that Andy was prescribed in his childhood large amounts of a (then) new anti-anxiety medication known...

Episode 1: In Search of a Tinnitus Cure — Dr. Josef Rauschecker

That was a thoroughly riveting discussion - thanks to all involved. Loved his early highlighting of the pronunciation issue which is something that bugs me. But whatever camp you are in maybe if you get lucky you will only have Tinytus...

I Could Kick Myself for Not Stopping My Loud Dental Procedure

Also don't let a dentist near you with one of those ultrasonic cleaners which transmit high-energy sonic shockwave directly through your jaw bone/cranium to the tiny inner ear bones. It seems we are under assault from all sides with this Tinnitus thing.

Help! Rhythmic Cicada Sound Synced to My Pulse — Do I Have Pulsatile Tinnitus?

You have what I have - somatic pulsatile tinnitus. As above be wary of concerts. My PT was manageable for a couple of years until I attended a concert by The Cure then it went ballistic. So alas for me The Cure was anything but ...

Musician's Egg Shakers — Instant Relief When the Tinnitus Gets Over the Top

Just thought I might share this with the group: When I first got severe tinnitus and had a complete breakdown I spent some time in a Sensory Modulation Room. The therapist handed me a pair of egg shakers and as i shook them my tinnitus was completely masked. My predominant tinnitus is a loud...

My Daily Tinnitus Severity Rate — No Clues

Same here - if I nod off in front of the TV and suddenly wake up the T jumps straight to 8/10+ and i am straight into panic mode. On the exceptional occasion when I get a solid sleep the T can take longer to ramp up - but when I say longer I mean 10 seconds versus a millisecond.

Poll: Is Your Pulsatile Tinnitus Intermittent or Constant?

Mine cranks into overdrive immediately upon waking (that's if I have slept). I am forced out of bed and try to get busy asap. The PT often lessens a little but I think this is more due to distraction. At the end of the day the PT often gives way to a more constant loud waivering hissing which...

    Somatosensory Pulsatile Tinnitus Syndrome

I must be the chairman of the board ... had low level bilateral ringing for 30 odd years and it never really bothered me until I tried a yoga move that I used to be able to do 25 years ago. This was going from a headstand to dropping the knees to touch the floor. Big mistake - something weird...

What Exactly Does Your Pulsatile Tinnitus Sound Like?

December 2015 after I injured my neck. Had an MRI but I doubt if the operators were tinnitus experts - they didn't scan my cervical spine area which is where I am sure the problem began

Can Stress Really Trigger Pulsatile Tinnitus?

No question stress cranks it up - mine certainly went up another couple of notches after a particularly stressful year. With PT you have a hard-wired feedback loop that is perfectly designed to raise anxiety levels like raging wildfire. What is this pulsating phantom that has picked on our...

What Exactly Does Your Pulsatile Tinnitus Sound Like?

That's pretty much what mine is - a pulsating hiss that sits at the base of my skull. Sometimes it's very very aggressive, sometimes more tolerable.

    Benzos and Pulsatile Tinnitus Reduction

Glad I read your post this morning! It was the first time ever that I have heard someone describing PT/T symptoms & patterns that match my experience closely. I take another benzo : Lorazepam .5mg or 1mg if I am really suffering and without exception it lowers the level of the T and reduces the...

Thought My Tinnitus Was Better, Now It's PULSATING!?

Really sorry to hear it. I can relate to your predicament as adjusting to this kind of PT is a challenge to say the least. I think the whooshing type of PT has a chance that there is a physical cause that may be able to be identified and corrected. I had an MRI ... but down here in NZ I don't...

Can Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Cause Pulsatile Tinnitus?

I have noise induced hearing loss and I have constant T and pulsatile T. Most days my PT reacts to noise levels and increases with ambient volume so I believe there is a direct correlation

Talking Tinnitus — a U.K. Expo in Birmingham on Saturday, 15th September, 2018

I would be really interested in hearing (pardon the pun) if any research is looking at the link between tinnitus and autoimmune disease/s. I have a strong but completely unscientific suspicion that the two are inextricably linked. Thank you.

    Surfers Ear and Tinnitus

Olas thanks for your update. I have only about a large needle hole left in my right ear canal due to exostoses. I have been really fearful of having "the operation" because the idea of even louder tinnitus simply terrifies me. Having read about your experience has made me a lot more positive...

I have high frequency pulsatile T which is driven by my heartbeat. But when I jog it starts pulsing in time with my footsteps a bit like you. After I have finished running the pulsatile T subsides and I am left with a loud hissing.

Water in Ear Makes Tinnitus Worse

Hi Chappy - I see you are a surfer. This immediately raised an alarm bell for me as I can relate to your symptoms. What you are describing sounds remarkably like "Surfers Ear" or exostoses of the ear canal. Many surfers who spend a lot of time in the water get this chronic condition which is...
