8-Year-Old Complaining of Tinnitus: No Noise Trauma — Could It Be Earwax Blockage?

There is certainly a lot of tinnitus in my family. Dad and one sister both have it, which is why I jumped to the worst-case scenario with my daughter. Fortunately, for now, her issues are middle ear related, but it was a good opportunity to talk to her about noise, etc, and caring for our hearing.

8-Year-Old Complaining of Tinnitus: No Noise Trauma — Could It Be Earwax Blockage?

Thanks for asking. We went to the Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne after the doctor said he saw no earwax or issues with her middle ear. The ENT at the hospital started her on Prednisolone for sudden sensorineural hearing loss that night, given there was no earwax and no recent upper...

8-Year-Old Complaining of Tinnitus: No Noise Trauma — Could It Be Earwax Blockage?

Thank you both @Michael Leigh and @slc. I did wonder about SSNHL. This seems quite rare, but it is still a possibility that needs to be ruled out. Given that it’s been two days, I will ensure we see someone today.

8-Year-Old Complaining of Tinnitus: No Noise Trauma — Could It Be Earwax Blockage?

Hi All, It’s been a while since I last posted. My cochlear hydrops and tinnitus are largely under control, and life has been 'normal' for me. Tonight, my heart broke when I found my eight-year-old daughter in the bathroom, crying and saying she could hear a noise in her right ear. After...

Poll: If Turmeric (or Curcumin) Successfully Lowered Your Tinnitus, Did the Effect Last Long Term?

Hey my friend! I’m doing great, super well, basically no tinnitus anymore! No I’m not taking Curcumin anymore. I take low-dose Naltrexone which has the effect of almost silencing my tinnitus. I definitely think it’s an inflammatory / hormonal thing for me. I feel like I have my life back...

Possible Cochlear Hydrops — Weird Symptoms

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. No real flare ups of note. My Hydrops seems to be hormonal. I have birth in June and stayed on the diuretics and LDN during pregnancy. Towards the end, I had some MEM (Middle Ear Myoclonus), but that has settled and stopped for about 2 months. I haven’t tried...

Possible Cochlear Hydrops — Weird Symptoms

Hi @Zach777, sorry to hear what you are going through. I have Cochlear Hydrops. Indeed low frequency hearing loss, tinnitus and ear fullness are symptoms of this condition. My experience with the hearing loss was horrific. I had diplacusis, so I had a robotic echo in my right ear usually...

Low Drone Tinnitus Does Not Need Much to Shut Down Completely

Why doesn’t Dr. Bance think you have MEM? I do know of Dr. Bance, and have connected with several of his patients. Many who’ve had him perform surgery to cut their middle ear muscles. What you have sounds exactly like what I had three episodes of now, which I have linked to hormonally driven...

Low Drone Tinnitus Does Not Need Much to Shut Down Completely

@Ben Winders, my honest opinion is this low drone, at least for some, and particularly for those that can stop it by plugging their ear, is that this is middle ear myoclonus - i.e. the tensor tympani or the stapedius muscle in spasm. Particularly if it stops and starts. More so if there is a...

Can LDN (Low-Dose Naltrexone) Make Tinnitus Better or Worse?

Hi and sorry for my late reply. No, I haven’t stopped the LDN. I have given birth just 2 weeks ago, and at times during the pregnancy my tinnitus spiked. I’d blame hormones and inflammation and the LDN couldn’t help, even when I increased the dose. Things are now back to normal and the only...

Can LDN (Low-Dose Naltrexone) Make Tinnitus Better or Worse?

Sorry for my late reply, I’ve had a busy time having a baby! I stayed on the diuretics. I think the diuretics cured the Hydrops. I had a tiny recurrence at the end of my pregnancy, but all is well now, 2 weeks after the birth. I’ve cut the Moduretic in half so I can breastfeed and all...

Can LDN (Low-Dose Naltrexone) Make Tinnitus Better or Worse?

The LDN basically cured my bothersome tinnitus, but before that, I’d say I wasn’t habituated. I was ok with things, but still not habituated. I’m cured now I’d say.

Can LDN (Low-Dose Naltrexone) Make Tinnitus Better or Worse?

Thank you! I had gotten used to my tinnitus, so it wasn’t the main focus of my life BUT I still needed to mask at night and it irritated me when trying to watch TV at night. I barely think about it anymore and I feel like myself again, or at least 95%.

Can LDN (Low-Dose Naltrexone) Make Tinnitus Better or Worse?

I wouldn’t go to a GP. They know little about Naltrexone at low doses. It’s just not mainstream sadly. I’d seek out an integrative doctor. I can recommend Jenny Bromberger. She’ll do a phone consult I think, her practice is in Woolloomooloo, and she sends her scripts to Kingsway compounding...

Hi Malin, I am on 1 mg. I am currently pregnant and under the guidance of my doctor increased 2 mg as I noticed the tinnitus ramping up again over the last week or so. My tinnitus has always fluctuated with my hormones, I suspect my hormones cause inflammation at various times in my cycle...

Tinnitus and Diuretics — Can Diuretics Help Lessen Tinnitus Symptoms?

Hi Brian, I have/had cochlear Hydrops most likely because of hormonal IVF treatment. A diuretic will only work if your inner ear has Hydrops (excess fluid). The weight training may have caused Hydrops for you, but I’ve not heard of anyone else who has developed it in this way. You could try it...

Hi @Malin, I do check in from time to time. I am still on LDN and it’s still working its magic. My tinnitus is barely audible unless I think about it in a quiet room. I still take 1 mg. @twa, see my post to Malin above. Still using it and it’s worth a try. It’s a safe drug at low dose so no...

My Turn for Your Support — Woke Up with Sudden Hearing Loss and Severe Vertigo

Absolutely it’s indicative of both Meniere’s and SSNHL. I was initially misdiagnosed with SSNHL, I had no vertigo. Prednisone did nothing and so sourced myself a diuretic and all has been well since. Just putting it out there as another avenue to pursue as symptoms overlap. I suffered for a...

My Turn for Your Support — Woke Up with Sudden Hearing Loss and Severe Vertigo

@billie48 The pressure in the ear and full / blocked feeling also sounds typical of Meniere’s. A suggestion to see if it helps is to ask your doctor for a diuretic. In Meniere’s, this pressure and blocked feeling is often due to the build up of fluid in the inner ear. A diuretic can assist in...

Tinnitus Only in My Right Ear Is Ruining My Life

Tinnitus Getting Worse and New Hearing Loss: Could I Have Cochlear Hydrops?

Sorry I didn’t see your post until now. I’m in Australia, so can’t help with doctors. A good start is to find an otoneurologist as opposed to an ENT. Also, there may be a support group on FaceBook for Meniere’s - an Australian one I joined referred me on to my current doctor.

The Valsalva Maneuver Substantially Lowers My Tinnitus

@Poseidon65 if your ears are clogged, the pressure in your middle ear changes and it's likely your tinnitus is amplified. You could have a tympanogram at an audiologist to test the pressure in your middle ear. Valsalva would provide relief for me when I've had blocked ears.
