I've had noise induced tinnitus for 4 years now and I can tell you that I have never used a decibel meter before and I'm pretty much fine, I get random spikes but I don't think it is because of sound (just stress related maybe?).

Mine is non existent in the morning and increases throughout the day as well, I've had tinnitus for a few years now.

I assume it's the same as dropping a metal toaster and the sound that results is right next to your ear. I had this happen last week and it made me go instant deaf too as well as a more obvious pitch. It goes away after 5 minutes (in some cases 24 hours) but it does go away.

The same with me, I throw myself into sewing and reading more these days and less focus is placed on materialism and vain pursuits. The avoidance of loud places has shaped and change my view of the world as well, for the better and I am grateful for it.

Not sure why he would need to do that when there are tons of the latter on the forums (every day reminding us that these minorities exist) and not enough of the former.

I've read about the opposite of what people here have stated, either way it really won't make a difference because nobody's experience is ever replicated. T may get better, or it may get worse, no one can predict the outcome. A lot of it may/may not boil down to: diet, exercise, genetics...

My T is quietest in the morning (especially after waking up where it is virtually non-existent), it gets louder as the day goes on. It is quietest after waking up from a nap too. My T is loudest at night but quietest 3-4 hours after waking.

It's weird, sometimes i can "feel" my t sort of like some kind of "aura" or vibration emanating from the center of my head. I can't hear it, i can only sense it like how one senses a thunderstorm coming. This is only on bad days though, and I would feel my ears being stuffy or something.

One thing that helps me overcome feeling a particular way is when I read the stories I keep an objective point of view: these are other people's experiences, they are not mine, I do not know what the future has in store for me. There are many factors that come into play so don't discredit...

Even if your noise induced tinnitus doesn't go away, there is a greater chance it will get better in time and you won't even notice it... If your tinnitus is mild/moderate you have the best chance of healing and you will be OK (if you protect your ears).

A doctor will be able to help you with this far better than anyone here. Don't risk it, definitely have someone look inside your ears. Could be hay fever too

Hang in there, if your T is mild/moderate most people will be able to find that habituation helps them. It just takes time, it took me around 8 months until my brain got fed up with it and just resolved to ignore it .

I think it's different for everyone, for me my T is quieter the more noise i expose it to (but not too much noise or it will damage my ears.)...but if i sit around too much in quietness my T becomes very "present" and i go crazy. That's why i have the TV on all the time set at a decent level...

Give yourself some time to heal, it is normal after getting ear wax removed that you are hearing new sounds. Give it about a month before you consider tinnitus.

Because worrying about the future prevents you from enjoying the present, nothing can stop what will come so what is even the point of trying. Yes there is a good chance age will worsen your tinnitus but I'll deal with that day when it happens.

People back then were probably tougher too due to the hardships of their lives, no modern technology to help them... no advance medical science, no internet... pretty sure life was harder than anything tinnitus can dish out. Probably the least of their worries.

I agree, I think I should start ignoring people too. I generally don't because I actually like to hear differing opinions and perhaps learn something from them...but these days most people generally affirm my suspicions rather than dispel them so i guess that whole good intentions thing is shot

It depends on many circumstances and not two person will ever have the same kind of T. It depends on whether or not there was previous damage, whether you've protected your ears in the past, whether you've been protecting it since, future accidental exposures etc. There's a good chance your T...

If you're new to tinnitus I recommend giving yourself some time to habituate. Avoid the horror stories, the negativity on some of these threads will devour you if you allow it. Focus on the positives for now, once you have your anxiety under control then revisit your concerns. Hope you get better

Ok I'll jump in, I was at a wedding a year ago and my tinnitus spiked for a few weeks then went back to normal.

My grandfather has tinnitus and really couldn't care less, it doesn't bother him... It doesn't prevent him from sleeping, he tells me that he just forgets about it. His is severe too. I think it depends on personality traits, people who tend to be more emotional have a harder time dealing with...

Don't forget that time is not your friend and there is a good chance your T will increase in volume as you get older. This is why protecting them now while you're still young will pay off later. Personally I try not to think about that but it's a good reason to consider staying home VS going to...

I haven't gotten sick yet but recently I took allergy meds for hay fever and my tinnitus went through the roof!! I had no idea how ototoxic those over the counter meds are, so beware of allergy pills! Hope you get better soon Jack!

I think all this stuff is subjective, if it doesn't work for you but it works for someone else...whose life might be saved by it...then it matters and should be considered as an alternative method of healing. I never knew what habituation was but when someone here kindly mentioned it to me it...

This is profound and I agree, thanks for posting it OP. I sometimes think of my favorite authors and they died before their prime, it made me realize how lucky I am to live in the modern day.

It's a tool best suited for mild tinnitus sufferers.

I thought your spike was due to piano? Did that spike subside? Or did you have another accidental exposure? Anyway, hope you are doing well.

You can wear soft ear protection like swimmer's plugs, it is enough to protect your ears against small incidents while being comfortable enough that it will still allow you to hear your surroundings.

You are over thinking it maybe? What work do you do, does your job require being around loud noises daily? Do you wear ear plugs every time you are around noise? These are important questions worth considering.

I'm very careless around noise, i generally protect my ears when i hear a car coming by cupping or pressing down on my lobes. Otherwise in my house i smash dishes daily or some days when i wake up I have a fit and start throwing things which then creates noise but my ears seems to put up with it.

I have no regrets and I've forgiven myself a long time ago, you are your own worst enemy when it comes to T. What you think about and how you react to those thoughts will either uplift you or devour you.
