Could a Gas-Powered Floor Scrubber Damage Hearing or Worsen Tinnitus?

Thank you for the responses! I’m actually not using a ton of gas equipment right now- the most would be a lawnmower. And I definitely had earplugs inserted correctly, as I use them a lot and know how they work!

Could a Gas-Powered Floor Scrubber Damage Hearing or Worsen Tinnitus?

Hello everyone! Question for you all: yesterday I was in a pet store picking up some crickets for a really cute leopard gecko I have. I had in some 32 dB foam earplugs, and there was a gas floor scrubber there cleaning the floor. I was in there perhaps for 5-10 minutes, and I think I measured...

Lawn Mower 125 Feet Away While Wearing Earplugs, No Harm to Hearing/Tinnitus, Right?

Hey everyone! I've got a stupid question for you - if there was a lawn mower going like 125 feet away, and I was wearing earplugs, I’d be fine to be in that area for a few minutes right? Just curious! :)

Clarinet Playing! :) Is It a Safe Noise Level? Can It Make Tinnitus Worse?

Thanks! I played it for about 10 min yesterday quietly with earplugs, and it was just fine. Honestly it’s the same level as talking or singing with earplugs in. It’s mostly bone conduction when you have them in, and I was playing clarinet earlier this year when I had ear troubles and was doing...

Clarinet Playing! :) Is It a Safe Noise Level? Can It Make Tinnitus Worse?

Hey everyone! I’m thinking of pulling out my clarinet and playing it again after a few months since I graduated from college. I’ll wear earplugs and/or earmuffs depending on how loud I play. Does this seem like a safe noise level to you all?

Independence Day — Fourth of July — Fireworks, Tinnitus and Hearing Damage

Is that 80 decibels max for a firework (I was sitting inside) anything I should worry about? I doubt it, as literally doing dishes can be louder than that.

Independence Day — Fourth of July — Fireworks, Tinnitus and Hearing Damage

Well I’m sitting in my basement, all good here. Loudest one from inside was maybe 60-80 dB, so that’s not loud at all :)

Air Blower Next Door: Could It Spike Tinnitus?

:) thanks. I gotta remind myself that random loud events just happen, and no matter what I do I can’t control them.

Air Blower Next Door: Could It Spike Tinnitus?

Hello everyone! A neighbor was using an electric air blower next door (maybe 50 feet away), after about 30 seconds I was able to get earplugs in. Any chance this could spike tinnitus? Also, I looked up online how loud electric blowers are, and it looks like they’re 65-75 dB about 50 feet away...

Trains, Cars and Motorcycles (Oh My) — Could These Lead to Increases in Tinnitus?

I hope you like the Wizard of Oz reverence :) Today I was in a town with a few friend and on the way down, was next to a car with a noisy muffler. I put earplugs on as soon as I could, but it was rather annoying. A little bit later, I was near a train (50 ish feet away) and it was...

How Loud Are Circular Saws? Dangerous for Hearing / Tinnitus?

Well, I actually went and measured it! It (not cutting wood) was around 85 decibels, and when it cut wood the max was 96.5 decibels. So even with the worst case scenario for my hearing protection (which I used, earplugs and earmuffs), the highest noise exposure for me for like a second would be...

How Loud Are Circular Saws? Dangerous for Hearing / Tinnitus?

Hey everyone! One more question: I’ve recently been near some handheld electric circular saws, standing perhaps 15 feet away while helping make a garden fence. I’m using both earplugs (the foam ones with a 32 decibel rating) and earmuffs (with like a 30 decibel rating). Any concerns about it...

Electric Drill and Motorcycle Noises — Risk to Hearing or Tinnitus?

Ok! Still though, I don’t think it would be damaging to wear earplugs with a drill. Everywhere seems to say it only helps.

Electric Drill and Motorcycle Noises — Risk to Hearing or Tinnitus?

Well I looked it up - it appears they seem to be talking about hearing aids. Nothing I could find about occlusion effect being associated with hearing loss. Isn’t the whole point of earplugs to reduce sound?

Electric Drill and Motorcycle Noises — Risk to Hearing or Tinnitus?

Hello everyone! Five days ago, on Saturday, I woke up with a new sound in my ears. It’s like a Morse code sound, pretty low tone. It’s louder when I wake up, gets pretty quiet during the day, then gets louder right before I go to bed. I really haven’t done anything that I think would upset the...

Electric Drill and Motorcycle Noises — Risk to Hearing or Tinnitus?

Hello Tinnitus Talk people! Just have a question for you based on two sound thingies I recently have had, mostly for peace of mind, as I don’t think either of these are dangerous at all. First, this weekend I was helping my family make a garden fence! I was using an electric drill to drill...

Pulling Earplugs Out Making Tinnitus Worse? / Update on Life

Hey everyone! I am doing even better than when I last posted here. About half of the days the ears don’t stress me out too much, even though I can hear them. Question for you all - have you ever had tinnitus increase from accidentally taking earplugs out too fast? I’ve taken them out too fast...

If You Yell for a Second, Do You Think It Could Make Tinnitus Worse?

Hello Dr. Nagler! I have looked through forums a good bit and all, but I was just wondering your opinion on this: If I yell pretty loudly for like a second, do you think that would damage hearing/make tinnitus louder at all? I did that a couple of weeks ago to get my brother’s attention who was...

We Often Cannot Change Our Tinnitus — But We Can Change Our Outlook on Life

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful evening. Here I sit, and I can hear the whispering in both ears (with about six tones in my right ear lol), and I am actually pretty darn calm and excited for tomorrow. Now, keep in mind that earlier today was really rough - I was focusing...

Yelling at Someone — Risk of Tinnitus Getting Worse?

I don’t yell on a consistent basis, like maybe once every two weeks lol. It wasn’t even that loud. Plus, for some reason I don’t get stressed when other people yell- only when I myself yelled. It’s weird.

Yelling at Someone — Risk of Tinnitus Getting Worse?

So you think it’s more stress related to the loud sound and me over reacting instead of the actual sound itself causing damage? That would seem to make sense.

Yelling at Someone — Risk of Tinnitus Getting Worse?

Hello everyone! Life is getting better and better, slowly. I have a question for you all. A couple of days ago, I yelled somewhat loudly to get my brother's attention who was in the bathroom. Do you think I should have any concerns for hearing damage/tinnitus increase? I've yelled in the past...

Can Barking Dogs Cause Hearing Damage / Make Tinnitus Worse?

Hello everyone! I posted about a spike a few months ago, and wanted to let you know it’s going better for me. Ears aren’t better, but I’m becoming more habituated and less anxious about the new level in my ears. I do however have a question for you all... about 5 days ago I was at a friend's...

Karaoke Two Weeks Ago Caused a Tinnitus Spike

Hello everyone! Two weeks ago I went to a karaoke night and used earplugs. It really wasn’t all that loud except for a few of the bass noises. However, since then, I have gotten a spike in tinnitus (before this I had been habituated fully for a year and a half!) I’ve started taking NAC and...

    Prednisolone 5mg for Early Tinnitus?

Looks like methycobal is a certain type of vitamin B12, and it looks like the Japanese drug dialates the blood vessals- some people say that can help tinnitus perhaps? Shouldn’t hurt to take them

It’s Still There, but My Life Is Amazing 14 Months Later

Hey Egg! I guess I’ll start from the top: For study methods, I really actually didn’t change much at all. I like it quiet when I study, or soft music, so I didn’t like blast music or anything to make myself distracted from the homework. I would say for now until you get used to it perhaps try...

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a fantastic day! So about 14 months ago, on April 20, 2017, I had an ear infection in my right ear and got tinnitus. I think I had a little bit before during the night, but this made much more apparent- combinations of hissing and ringing at multiple...

    Hello There!

They did a word recognition test and a test with headphones and beeping. The beeping and word tests went up to about 6000 hz and showed no hearing loss. Only the bone conduction test, which went up to 12000 hz, showed hearing loss at 8000 hz.
  34. G

    Hello There!

It was in the right ear, and somewhat on the left ear. However I'm not sure if the test they used was an official ear test, it was some sort of a bone reverberation device.

    Hello There!

Hello! I don't think it was the amoxicillin; at least I hope it wasn't. I have had a hearing test, and I had completely normal hearing except for at 8000 hz. I went to an ENT last week and they were confident that the tinnitus would go away. However they did not say there was any way they could...

Hello Tinnitus Talk! Today I am on here to talk about my tinnitus and I am wondering about your opinions of it. I have now had it for almost six weeks.
