Hey everyone! I’m thinking of pulling out my clarinet and playing it again after a few months since I graduated from college. I’ll wear earplugs and/or earmuffs depending on how loud I play. Does this seem like a safe noise level to you all?

Is that 80 decibels max for a firework (I was sitting inside) anything I should worry about? I doubt it, as literally doing dishes can be louder than that.

Well I’m sitting in my basement, all good here. Loudest one from inside was maybe 60-80 dB, so that’s not loud at all :)

I don’t yell on a consistent basis, like maybe once every two weeks lol. It wasn’t even that loud. Plus, for some reason I don’t get stressed when other people yell- only when I myself yelled. It’s weird.

So you think it’s more stress related to the loud sound and me over reacting instead of the actual sound itself causing damage? That would seem to make sense.

They did a word recognition test and a test with headphones and beeping. The beeping and word tests went up to about 6000 hz and showed no hearing loss. Only the bone conduction test, which went up to 12000 hz, showed hearing loss at 8000 hz.

It was in the right ear, and somewhat on the left ear. However I'm not sure if the test they used was an official ear test, it was some sort of a bone reverberation device.

Also, it was caused by a virus. When I went to the PA a month ago they checked my ear and decided it was a virus.
