Hello everyone! Life is getting better and better, slowly.

I have a question for you all. A couple of days ago, I yelled somewhat loudly to get my brother's attention who was in the bathroom. Do you think I should have any concerns for hearing damage/tinnitus increase?

I've yelled in the past before, and haven't noticed any increase, so it shouldn't be any problem, but I just want to make sure that yelling won't damage my hearing at all (I am always very conscious of loud noises and use hearing protection whenever necessary - for example in concert band - earmuffs and earplugs combination).

It could, but who knows.. depends how loud you can yell? Haha.

I'd say it's unlikely to happen though as you aren't yelling into your ear and the direction of waves is away from you

Yelling is very dangerous for tinnitus. I got a permanent severe increase three years ago from yelling at somebody.

So you think it's more stress related to the loud sound and me over reacting instead of the actual sound itself causing damage? That would seem to make sense.

Absolutely. No doubt I've aggravated my T but never experienced anything permanent. I've yelled pretty dang loud at these kids too! I'll admit my hyperacusis is probably allowing my kids more wins these days. :)

Yeah man, it's the anxiety behind it all which would spike T i think

I think you should asses the situation maybe a few days to 1 week + later and see where things stand. Tinnitus may have a delayed reaction, so give it time and see what happens. Our ears are very resilient, just one yell should not totally damage it(most of the time), now if you yell each day and keep at it, it might possibly do it.

Wait, give it some time and then see. Over-thinking and stressing will not help and it can possibly give you a spike.

Take care!

I don't yell on a consistent basis, like maybe once every two weeks lol. It wasn't even that loud. Plus, for some reason I don't get stressed when other people yell- only when I myself yelled. It's weird.

Opposite for me..

It shouldn't damage your hearing. It also shouldn't lead to any major tinnitus spikes. Having said this, over the next year or two you might want to try to not yell.
