God Doesn't Exist. Well If He Did... He Would Help Me Bring to Justice the Person Who Assaulted Me

I've got a friend who blames God for everything everybody that goes wrong in her life, and it makes her really miserable. Questions of cosmic justice are unanswerable, but personally that kind of deity doesn't make any sense to me at all. Forget God and Justice, deal with the tinnitus first if...

    Do I Need a Doctor's Diagnosis?

I'm sometimes woken by a hallucination of a phone or a doorbell. Sounds nothing like tinnitus. I guess it's a dream telling me to wake up. I wouldn't want to hear it at 2AM, though.

Tinnitus So Loud After Naps — Why?

It's the opposite with me. Most times no T at all when wake up, then it comes on after a few minutes. I lie there trying not to think about it, but it doesn't delay the inevitable. You have my sympathy Kathy. Christmas is stressful enough as it is, without having to deal with illness too. It's...

    Tinnitus Louder During Cold/Sinus Infection

With me it gets louder during colds and flu, but it returns to its normal level afterwards. I suppose it could the blocked ears not receiving as much external sound, making tinnitus more noticeable.

What Are the Signs Your Tinnitus Is Getting Better / Not as Loud?

I'd say "When you notice it less"; although tinnitus is real it is also subjective, so if you notice it less there's less of it.

Always Had It, Now It's a Problem

By "RI" I meant Residual Inhibition. Is that the expression? Find the most annoying tinnitus frequency, and listen to a few bleeps of sine wave at that frequency at a slightly louder volume than the tinnitus. This supresses my tinnitus for a couple of minutes, and gives me time to relax and get...

Always Had It, Now It's a Problem

They look good, but have they got RI bleeps? I'll see how I go with the home-brew devices first. The first thing I did when the sleep problems started was to build a simple three-transistor pink noise generator inside an old pocket radio case. It's very portable, it cost me nothing, but it...

Always Had It, Now It's a Problem

Thanks for the advice. I'll see if it's available locally. My sleep's OK at the moment. I've got a fan I can switch on if I need it, and next to me is my brother's old Tandy project set wired up to make a 1.6kHz RI bleep when I press the key. I may need to make something that will produce 1.6k...

Always Had It, Now It's a Problem

Hello all, my name is Susan, I'm 58, and I live in Australia. I've always had very mild tinnitus, usually noticeable when I had flu, but by middle age it had settled into a constant quiet high frequency fizz. I had no problem with that, and have no problem hearing things generally, although I...

    Makeup Junkies

A little bit to cover a spot or a shiny nose is fine, but too much will make you look like a clown. Lipstick is such ghastly stuff, I don't know why anyone would want to use it.

If You Have Tried Residual Inhibition, Did It Temporarily Eliminate Your Tinnitus?

Answering the topic question, RI temporarily stops the annoying component of my tinnitus, which is a constant tone at 1.6kHz in my right ear. There's a quieter musical burble around 1.2kHz that I don't need to stop because I actually like listening to it! I focus on this sound to tune out the...

Thanks Greg, it's useful to have a name for the effect.

Reverse the Sine Wave — Cure Tinnitus?

I should add that my tinnitus can be stopped for a couple of minutes by listening to a few short bleeps of 1.6khz sine wave at a low to moderate volume. That's not phase cancellation as such. My guess is, once I give my ear and brain what it's trying to hear, it stops hallucinating it. It's not...

Reverse the Sine Wave — Cure Tinnitus?

I was testing the frequency of my tinnitus using a frequency generator, and at a sound level in the phones close to subjective loudness of the tinnitus, there were beats on either side as I swept the generator across the 1.6kHz T frequency. Very odd. It's not a real sound, but it does act like...
