Hi all, Finally got my MRI results which said, 'scan of both internal auditory meatuses are normal' so nothing found which is a relief. So just what is causing the rumbling. I don't think i'll ever find out.

Well finally, after one and a half years, ENT have offered me an MRI of my inner ear. Booked in for Sunday so fingers and toes crossed.

That's your Eustachian tubes opening and closing. Perfectly normal.

Hi, this low hum is always there but very low, whatever i did really annoyed it, never had it that loud before. I'm thinking Eustachian tube myself as i can open them at will without swallowing etc and i think doing that all the time throughout my life may have damaged the tube of my bad ear.

Well i've just scared myself to death. I foolishly wiggled my finger in my bad ear because it was itching then all of a sudden this huge loud pulsing low tone came from no-where. It faded after a minute or so, what the hell was that?!

Thanks guys, I will look in to other apps or try a different phone. Regardless, like others have said, i think it's vibration.

Re-tested it today, got 105db on both apps. I have the window down, road noise is loud, it's surprising.

If your in the UK then chances are you will get nowhere with ENT. They will check your ears for wax and THAT'S IT. No scans, further checks, examinations, nothing. Seeing another next month but expect nothing.

Yep, i get exactly the same. It is worst when the kettle is boiling. It seems to react to anxiety and stress as well.

Not done that yet although i suspect the same issue would occur.

Just used 35db foam earplugs. Used etymotics type ear plugs before on shorter distance trips which don't seems to make a difference. Use 2 separate apps on the phone which measure the same. I have the window open a lot with concrete sections on the motorway.

Yes, bone conduction is a possibility i guess. My T is not hearing based so it could be messing with muscles etc. Not driving, i sit as comfortable as possible and try to relax face and neck muscles. Nothing helps.

Yes! Had exactly the same thing the other week. Hearing went dull in my right (good) ear and this shrieking T hung around and only faded very slowly. Took about 90 mins to go. Bloody scary.

It's about a 3-4. It's not massively loud but loud enough and it's many different tones. Tried many GP'S. They all follow the same hyme sheet unfortunately. I've been unlucky I guess.

@Ken219 My ENT spent the majority of the time pulling faces at me when I tried to explain my somatic T. His attitude was bad. I know there is not much research but as he is a specialist, I expected more.
