Announcement Welcome to Updated Tinnitus Talk!

Hey, big thanks for the update! Dark mode looks pretty good, although the light version is a bit too clinical for me. ^^

Can Attending a Fireworks Show with Double Hearing Protection Make Tinnitus Worse?

It's already over, but from my point of view, the biggest point of danger is random idiots throwing firecrackers in your proximity. You likely won't be able to protect against that sufficiently even with hearing protection. Just as a consideration for the future.

How Do You Cope Mentally with Hyperacusis and Being Homebound?

Moderate, though right after my last setback a year ago I deemed it low severe. @Jazzer has very severe tinnitus but manages to have peace of mind with meditation, so severity doesn't seem to make peace of mind outright impossible (but in all likeliness more difficult).

How Do You Cope Mentally with Hyperacusis and Being Homebound?

I am partially homebound, just lost my job, but can still go for a few specific walks and am financially safe thanks to my parents and my own savings (for the moment). I am currently quite calm and happy, which I owe to counseling and buddhism. The teachings of Buddhism have been very valuable...

No Car, Bus Is Loud, I Don't Want to Risk Making My Tinnitus Worse → I'm Housebound

The problem is not your average car. Harley Davidsons or cars with modified exhausts can reach over 120 dB. As do horns of trucks if you live at a place where that is used frequently. For many here, even double protection would not be enough to protect yourself from a worsening. A bus at least...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

These are some insights I learned about mindfulness and Buddhism in the past few years. Take it with a grain of salt because I train mindfulness rather low-key (but still daily). - When you practice mindfulness, you probably get into this somewhat trance-like, calm and relaxing state (you'll...

How to Protect Ears at a Carnival?

I had a significant setback with both tinnitus and hyperacusis when I went to a small-scale carnival in 2020 because of an unexpected firecracker that went off closely, so I think the main problem is that carnivals are situations where you have a certain chance to be exposed to jackasses who...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

I'm just a novice at this, but this is my current understanding: With meditation or mindfulness practice, you can learn to change your reaction to unpleasant stimuly (among other things). Naturally I would react with fear or anger to somewhat loud noises, and pain and more intense emotions to...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

My situation is pretty difficult due to the many setbacks I've had with my hyperacusis. Leaving the house has gotten somewhat difficult. Because I've worked on and still work on my attitude, I am still very content with my life at the moment despite being severely handicapped. Here is what...

    “Tinnitus Truths”

Pain x Resistance = Suffering Pleasure/Desire x Grasping = Suffering Stay mindful not to resist what feels umcomfortable, and not to grasp what is comfortable. There will still be pain and pleasure, but less or no suffering. That is the middle path.

    Suicidal

From Loudness Hyperacusis to Pain Hyperacusis — No Enjoyment of Music or Sounds

As @Brian Newman has suggested, I'd wait it out since you are improving very slowly. Pain hyperacusis usually does not respond to sound therapy (unlike loudness hyperacusis), in fact it can make it worse (as you've experienced yourself with pink noise), especially if you push through the pain...

Hey Chinmoku, I can't fathom the level of your suffering, but maybe this can help you a little: I did a mindfulness-based stress reduction course recently and our teacher suggested that we should try to smile when going through difficult/stressful moments. It may make it a bit easier to deal...

We spread awareness to people who are open to our arguments. We can't save everybody. I mean, Republicans aren't trying to win over die-hard Democrats. It doesn't work and would be wasted resources. Part is also how you formulate your message. Geoff started immediately with "what you do is...

Botox as a Possible Treatment for Pain Hyperacusis

I remember reading that traumatized people have enhanced startle response. Sudden loud noise that leads to ear injury certainly can be traumatizing. So it doesn't seem surprising that TTM hyperactivity occurs after such an event and that it leads to inflammation.

Can Wuling (Wu Ling Shen) Help Tinnitus? Here's a Promising Study

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

Aye, this is true for me as well. Regarding noise exposure, I should theoretically be in the last 10% to get tinnitus. Yet I have loud tinnitus, some loudness hyperacusis and some pain hyperacusis. Let's be honest even pain hyperacusis is odd. If it were just damaged hair cells or nerves...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

During my first time I did it during hypnosis, imagining the hurtful situation. Nowadays I just do it verbally in my head (though it is not purely verbal; there needs to be a willingness to apologize, not just think the words despite not wanting to apologize). I think visualization or hypnosis...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

Temporarily shutting down tinnitus should definitely be possible since it's probably the same mechanism for which people can be suggested to not feel pain during hypnosis. If you need convincing, here's a video about a hernia surgery without anesthetics: There's also an indication that it...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

It's loud/high-pitched enough that only few noises mask it (shower and running faucet are still among them). So it's essentially "always there" but not quite "in your face enough" that it's always in my conscious awareness. It doesn't really seem to matter since Pitseleh's tinnitus is very...

Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?

I gave myself the suggestion yesterday that when I hear tinnitus (though it translated more to "listening to") I am relaxed. Unleashing the Power of the Mind to Manage Tinnitus?
