    Familial Tinnitus?

Interesting question. Both my parents have passed. My mother told me she had mild tinnitus that she could only hear at night. She thinks it may have been caused by cancer drugs. My dad, on the other hand, worked in a factory, ran a chain saw and did little to nothing to protect his ears. He had...

Still improving from severe t onset just over 5 years ago. I can sleep better now at least. The tone isn't nearly as harsh as it was. Loud days are still fairly loud. Quiet days are like heaven. I can ignore it for hours sometimes no matter the loudness if I'm distracted.

Episode 17: Tinnitus, Ingrained in the Brain? — Prof. Dirk De Ridder

I wear hearing aids, and I sometimes wonder if they're just too limited in their range to pick up all of the frequencies I'm missing. Hearing aid technology has improved, but maybe as it improves more, it may have more of an impact on tinnitus?

My Success Story: Habituation *Is* Real

After the first year I wasn't doing well. Tinnitus had gotten better but was still pretty intense. Hardly any habituation. Many people on this thread suggest that intensity and loudness do not impact ones ability to habituate. As my tinnitus has mellowed out I feel it's much easier to ignore...

My Success Story: Habituation *Is* Real

It was somewhat difficult for me because I caused my own tinnitus. So I had to sort through all the feelings of regret and guilt associated with it. I never lost hope of recovering from this. I would hold onto to memories of how I used to be, but I vowed not just get better, but better than...

My Success Story: Habituation *Is* Real

Yes, it has slowly decreased in intensity along with my hyperacusis. On my mild days (1 or 2 a week) it's almost like I don't have tinnitus and my hyperacusis just about vanishes. The 2 are definitely linked for me. For me I think tinnitus is truly a malfunction or maladaptation of the brain's...

My Success Story: Habituation *Is* Real

I'd say approximately 2 years or so. My tinnitus has very slowly decreased in intensity. I don't know if it's because of healing, habituation, or a combination of both.

My Success Story: Habituation *Is* Real

I'm 3 years in this month and that's how my habituation developed. I remember I was lying in bed on a Saturday morning unable to sleep in. In that moment I started to just let it go. I'm at the point where I can go quite awhile without noticing my tinnitus. Then just a shift in thought will...

Be Honest. Do You Still Enjoy Life?

I can completely empathize with you. It will be three years in March with tinnitus. The fluctuations are one of the hardest parts of tinnitus. Like you said even on the quiet days there's always the thought of louder tinnitus the next day. My tinnitus has improved and I've habituated somewhat...

My Tinnitus Is Almost Gone After 3 Years: It's Now a Faint Ringing — No Longer Hyperacusis Either

I can tell you with my tinnitus the answer is a definitive "no". The changes were very gradual. Little victories along the way. An increase in the number of "mild" days was an indicator. The changes were only noticeable for me every 6-8 months. It was a gradual decrease in loudness and...

My Tinnitus Is Almost Gone After 3 Years: It's Now a Faint Ringing — No Longer Hyperacusis Either

I'm 3 months shy of 3 years with tinnitus. Like yours mine was really bad. It didn't start to really improve until about 18 months or so. It's not nearly as loud and intense as it once was. Definitely more livable. As time passes I hope it continues to improve. Congratulations on your improvements.

What Do Doctors Need to Understand About Tinnitus?

I realize now that I have tinnitus that I am the only one in charge of my health. Doctors are overrated, and once damage has occurred to the ears, doctors are of little to no use. My doctor trivialized my tinnitus, while my ENT gave me a mixed look of horror and sympathy when I told her about...

Noise-Induced Tinnitus Since March 2018 — Now It's Been Gone for Two Weeks

I take a regime of magnesium, turmeric, multivitamin, zinc, fish oil, CoQ10, lipoflavonoid. I exercise and try to eat healthy. Sodium seems to aggravate my tinnitus so I avoid a lot of it. My ears have definitely healed. I just hope they continue. Tinnitus is nowhere near as bad as it was a year...

Noise-Induced Tinnitus Since March 2018 — Now It's Been Gone for Two Weeks

I never thought at a year and 3 months that mine would ever improve like it has. I've had major improvements with hyperacusis, as well. I've also gained some of my balance back that I had lost, but sometimes I'm still wobbly. The tinnitus is continuing to fade, but the progress is literally...

About Mild Tinnitus — Can It Get Worse in the Future?

I believe that I had mild tinnitus that I could only hear in a dead quiet room. Unfortunately, due to a series of events (some of my own doing), that mild tinnitus cranked up to severe just over 2 years ago. It has since improved greatly, but is still bothersome. Be very careful my friend.

    Can Anxiety Really Increase Tinnitus?

I'm so so sorry you have to go through this. When my tinnitus was at its worst I tried various videos on YouTube to mask it. Can Anxiety Really Increase Tinnitus?

It was really devastating to me as well. I'd never experienced true depression before this. As my tinnitus has improved slowly I've calmed down a bit which has resulted in better sleep. My sleep is still disrupted which affects so many things. I too wish to hear silence again someday.

Mindfulness Is Key to Tinnitus Relief Research Reveals

I've had tinnitus for just over 2 years. For 18 months it was very severe, and intrusive. It is finally settling down to something somewhat livable. The change hasn't been so much in loudness, but intrusiveness. To suggest that the intensity of the tinnitus doesn't matter, and can just be...
