Hello, and a Question About Affording Hearing Aids for Tinnitus

Hi all, I'm not "new" on here exactly, but haven't posted for many months. I'm coming up on 2 years with tinnitus and to some extent I'm mitigating/coping, but to be honest it still sucks. Someone DM'd me and asked a question, and I thought I'd summarize part of our convo in case it helps...

    Hearing Aids

Thanks, that's really helpful info. As for me, definitely interesting in the T masking and other features so looking at Widex Evoke. I know there's a lot of other options but these are the ones my audiologist is familiar working with.

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

After discussing this on the forum, I don't think I will go for CBT. I am a true believer the benefits of therapy (as if one needs to "believe" in science to make it real). But for now I seem to be coping well enough. The main things I'm pursuing are hearing aids (which indisputably help) and...

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Very well said, thank you. What I’ve been trying to say is that for patients, there is a plurality of approaches to management, relief from distress, alleviation of symptoms, and, potentially someday soon (we hope), a cure. It’s called a holistic approach, and the people here bashing CBT don’t...

Turmeric Is Helping Me Cope with My Tinnitus

Haven't tried it yet but I've been doing some reading (e.g., https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3918523/) and it looks like the key to curcumin is taking it with piperine (a component of black pepper) to increase the bioavailability, which is otherwise poor. Going to start this regime...

Are there any resources/info on the forms & dosages for these that don't involve reading 1,000 threads on the forum?

Nearly 2 Years of Hell. ETD and Tinnitus. Need Help and Advice.

Hi James, thanks for your heartfelt story. I'm new here too and I can't offer much advice, but I can say hearing aids helped me to reduce, and some days even eliminate my T, which is high-pitched and in both hears. Of course, when I take them off at night the T comes back, perhaps more...

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Never blamed you or anyone else for their own suffering, never have. Not even trying to be "right." I was literally just asking--as a newcomer to this forum and to forms of tinnitus management in general--about the efficacy of CBT. You've thoroughly driven home your points against CBT. Thanks...

Lol, yerself, Mr. Science. I have two grad degrees: a M.S. with a minor in biostatistics, and a PhD in Biology. I generate, analyze, interpret, and communicate scientific data on a daily basis. I was happy to deliberate and discuss this with you until it got ugly. I chimed in on this forum with...

Okay JohnAdams, I appreciate your viewpoint but I respectfully disagree, and I'm going to bow out of the CBT sparring match. You obviously have a vendetta against CBT. Kudos for getting your message out there and sticking to your guns. As for me, I'm going to be open-minded about any...

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Is the basis of CBT acceptance, or is it providing coping strategies for people who have no other relief, or want to supplement other strategies they are pursuing? There certainly is decades of evidence for a psychological basis for relief. It doesn’t necessarily follow the problem exists only...

@Bill Bauer Do you mean fading as in diminishing of the tinnitus? The answer is No, with the exception of when I was wearing the demo hearing aids (which I can't afford because my insurance doesn't cover them). But I have gotten used to the tinnitus to some extent. Still sucks though!

    Hearing Aids

Already a lot of responses here so I'll keep it brief: Hearing aids were definitely effective reducing and often eliminating my tinnitus, which seems to stem from hearing loss. I had them on demo from my audiologist, and now trying to figure out how to afford them since my insurance doesn't...

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

@JohnAdams I think I understand your frustration with CBT... it's not addressing the root cause and basically telling patients, "Toughen up, buttercup." On the other hand it has strong evidential support for providing relief, and is highly recommended in clinical practice guidelines (e.g...

Hi all, I'm having an incredible fall Saturday morning including a walk to the farmer's market and baking a homemade apple pie. Incredible with the exception of my annoying and ever-present friend tinnitus, that is... I've heard CBT is one of the treatments with the most supporting evidence for...

Hello, and a Question About Affording Hearing Aids for Tinnitus

Thanks all for the info, good advice, and leads on affordable HAs. I looked into the Audicus model and options required to make them comparable to Widex Evoke and it results in a savings of $700. However, that's with only a 2-year warranty (vs. 3-year for Widex) and without the in-person fitting...

Sarah Jane, thanks for sharing your experience, which is simultaneously heart-warming and heartbreaking. Kudos for seeking out a community of support. I am new to this community as of today also, but have far less experience with tinnitus than you (constant since Nov. 2018). Hopefully following...
