Thank you for your help. I called up the MRI department and told them my problem. They said they will provide me with earplugs and earmuffs. I will still take my own earplugs and if they don’t accommodate me with proper earplugs I will refuse to go in the machine. Thank you for your help!

I have an MRI scan on Friday to see if they can uncover the cause of my tinnitus. Will standard foam earplugs be effective to protect my tinnitus from getting louder when paired up with the ear muffs that they provide? What earplugs would you recommend?

I understood everything just fine because I was wearing silicone earplugs, they don’t do too much. Next time I will be wearing better earplugs to hopefully avoid the spike!

Successfully saw Star Wars today! I wore silicone earplugs because I’m still too scared to wear foam ones. I’d say the T is the tiniest bit louder now that I’m in bed but it’s not the worst. I’m happy I can movies in the cinema again!

That makes a lot of sense. After seeing this private ent, if he suggests surgery and risks are slightly lower, I will try to get the surgery with him through the nhs (he’s also an nhs ent).

My first ent was an NHS ent, I also have another NHS ent appointment in late February but in the meantime I wanted some more advice. What are your reasons for no private ent?

I asked about the risks- for surgery, 20% failure rate 80% success rate (in my opinion is WAY too low). 1/1000 chance of facial paralysis, and chance of hearing loss. It just doesn’t seem worth the risks for me, I want to seek another way to heal!!

Thank you for responding, I have been booked in to see a private ENT on Jan the 2nd. As much as I trust and believe the first ENT, I have hope that there must be more I can do.

Yeah you’re right! I just need to take it slow, maybe after some time I’ll be ok being in that environment again. It’s definitely not worth the risk, I can’t have it getting any louder than it is.
