I agree, but more could be done to prevent people from getting it. Like showing the reality of living with it. It makes sense though, since any drug can disable or dampen that mechanism, which is what led me to having it chronically. Although that may not apply to everyone exposed to extreme sounds.

Not sure, but for me, if I get a spike, I put my ear under a running water faucet and that helps me.

I agree with @Johan001 and believe hearing aids should be worn because you could be exposed to loud noises anytime. Although I haven't got mine yet, my audiologist referred me to them. Good hearing aids block out loud noises.

Does this copying of sounds go away in general? I guess it has to do with hearing loss and the nerves getting lost. Maybe after habituation it becomes monotonal and less reactive.

That is definitely hyperacusis as I have the same symptoms. I think over time the hyperacusis will settle to a monotone tinnitus, but I'm not there yet. Make sure to sleep with a small fan on so the nerves have something to cling onto.

I had that too. There is a waterfall with crickets nearby where I live and sitting there for 20 minutes a night helped me.

Wierd, both time I got my earwax cleaned out I got tinnitus. The second time it worsened it. Earwax may protect ears from sound damage imo. Only issue is water getting clogged and getting an infection.
