Since you were wearing earplugs and exposed to the loud noise for only a short time, I'd hazard a guess the experience won't have a long-lasting effect on your hearing & tinnitus. You will be fine.
@MAH1970 Hi. I just came across your profile and read that your T seems to be sensitive to Serotonin. Does your T calm down once you stop taking an AD?
A few weeks is basically nothing, I'd say. There are success stories of people whose T subsided within the first year or two. Sometimes time proves to be a healer.
@Kam75
I understand why upping the dosage back to 22.5 mg would be seen as a "defeat" as it would probably mean that your sleep / T is dependent on Mirtazapine. It is definitely a dilemma. :-|
@aab No, I haven't. Do you use them for herbal tea?
I still get a lot of anxiety due to the new level of my T. The daytime is even more problematic for me, I'd say, as I'm not able to ignore the T.
@Mister Muso Usually I manage to fall asleep after midnight, but the noise wakes me up very early in the morning (at 5:30 am), and then I have trouble to fall back asleep.
I've just read your latest post in Susan's thread.
Could it be that reducing the Mirtazapine dosage contributed negatively and brought back your symptoms? Otherwise, what could be the reasons?
@Tryn2BHopeful 2mg is quite a low dose. Does it still have a sedating effect on you?
My main issue is that I wake up very, very early in the morning with the T screaming in my ear/head, and thus my sleep gets interrupted. Would it help with that?
@RunningMan I figured that if the T was going to subside, it would already have by now.
The change in serotonin level has probably caused the issues in your gut. The question is why they haven't resolved yet if the medication has already left your body?
@AverageJoe12
Are you sure it's the Mirtazapine that gave you T?
My T started about three weeks after my acoustic trauma. T onset is sometimes delayed.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but both Sertraline & Hydroxyzine increase Serotonin levels in the brain, so maybe the combination of them was problematic? Did you verify with your GP that it's OK to take them concurrently?
Just a thought...
@Tryn2BHopeful
Do you also have sound sensitivity / loudness H / pain H?
I'm almost 4 weeks in, and today I've been having the worst T so far (in terms of loudness). I'm starting to lose hope. :-(
@Tryn2BHopeful Well... They certainly like to say that the SSRI family of drugs are relatively "safe" compared to the old AD drugs.
Not for everyone, unfortunately.
@RunningMan I'm sorry to hear that.
What does your doctor say though? Is there any effective treatment that can ease your pain?
Maybe more time is required for the discomfort to go away. Or maybe there is an underlying issue, as you say. It needs to be examined properly.
@RunningMan So Lexapro didn't have any affect on your ears? You are very lucky. I wonder how common it is for T to worsen due to starting Lexapro.
Other than fatigue, I didn't notice any other side effect while on it.
It's rather strange that you still have stomach discomfort.
I took the last pill exactly a couple of weeks ago, and so far there's been no improvement whatsoever. On the contrary.
It's like I'm new to T all over again.
Have you come across SSRI-induced/worsened T cases that got better?
Your story is quite similar to mine. I took three doses of Lexapro. On the third day I woke up with catastrophic T.
The difference is that I had already had noise-induced T for three years. It was moderate. Now it has been severe for two weeks (and counting).
It's very hard.

I wonder if it's less risky for tinnitus sufferers. Hmmm...
Apparently it's already available in Europe. Does anyone have any experience with it?
I'm glad to hear they eventually resolved for you.
I read that if a fissure isn't naturally resolved by 6 weeks, then it becomes chronic and harder to treat.
Hey.
I've read your story and wanted to ask if you found a safer alternative for Nitroglycerin.
I need to use it, but I don't know what to do, as I already have tinnitus.
