Bad Tinnitus After Airbag Deployment in Car Accident — Did Two Weeks of Lexapro Further Damage My Hearing?

Look up @Mymlan's post in the Success Stories section. Her tinnitus began after exposure to a jackhammer in a tunnel. It took about three years, but her tinnitus has nearly faded away. Healing can be a slow process, sometimes taking years. Start embracing the TPP motto: Time, Patience...

Acoustic Trauma-Induced Tinnitus from Shooting AK-47 at a Gun Range

It sounds like you’re managing quite well. I’m hopeful for any improvements, and I remind myself that things could always be far worse. I’m also very grateful that I can sleep and function without medication. Adopting an “attitude of gratitude” really helps pull me out of any feelings of...

Tinnitus from Singing in Metal Band

I’m truly sorry you’re going through this difficult time. Most, if not all of us, know exactly how you feel. It may go away entirely, fade to a more manageable level, or your brain may adapt to it through habituation. Try talking to someone about it. Tinnitus is more common than you might think...

Tinnitus from Headphones: Retreating to a Quieter Place Has Helped — Now Afraid of Going Back to a Noisy House

Insomnia, anxiety, nervous breakdowns, and panic attacks are common during the first few weeks or months. Be patient; things will likely calm down over time. It took me about five months before I started getting 7–8 hours of sleep each night. I also struggled with insomnia and broken sleep at...

Acoustic Trauma-Induced Tinnitus from Shooting AK-47 at a Gun Range

@re-animator, what you described sounds like “fleeting tinnitus.” I used to experience this several times a day for the first 6 to 12 months. It would start with a split-second of dead silence in one ear (never both at the same time), followed by a louder, pure tone that lasted 10 to 20 seconds...

Acoustic Trauma-Induced Tinnitus from Shooting AK-47 at a Gun Range

@johnnyovercash7 shared his experience with tinnitus, and it seems like his condition either stayed the same or worsened. He has every right to share his story. However, you chimed in to criticize him for sharing his experience. My point is that you seem unwilling to accept a “negative” story...

Acoustic Trauma-Induced Tinnitus from Shooting AK-47 at a Gun Range

Acoustic Trauma-Induced Tinnitus from Shooting AK-47 at a Gun Range

@re-animator, hi there! I also developed tinnitus from firearms, so I understand the anxiety and panic you’re experiencing—it’s no fun. Are you able to sleep? I struggled with sleeplessness, waking up several times each night, and never feeling truly rested. For the first three to four months, I...

Tinnitus and Hyperacusis a Day After Shooting a .357 Magnum Revolver with Hearing Protection

If I understood your last reply, your theory is that the ear aches/pain and hyperacusis must subside BEFORE the tinnitus starts to fade. Am I correct on that? If so, I really don't have a clue how the body/mind heal, and if healing is in a certain order, or everything at once. All I know is I...

Tinnitus and Hyperacusis a Day After Shooting a .357 Magnum Revolver with Hearing Protection

Yes... It's been 17 months since the incident. Yes... Tinnitus, pain, hyperacusis were maybe "moderate" right after the incident. I'd say at least 3 months for dull ache in my ears to go away. 9 months, at least, for the hyperacusis to settle down. The volume of my tinnitus HAS faded. It is...

Tinnitus and Hyperacusis a Day After Shooting a .357 Magnum Revolver with Hearing Protection

I’m back with an update. The tinnitus is still with me—mild and stable—and for that, I am VERY grateful. I know it could be much, much worse. The hardest part has been forgiving myself for the poor choices I made the day my wife and I went shooting. I already had a mountain of regrets, and when...

Thank you for explaining the "occlusion effect." If you're unsure about going to the dentist, don't rush into it. Dentists are businesses, and part of their job is to create a sense of urgency, making you feel like you need to act quickly before your teeth deteriorate. Don’t fall for it—you...

Dental Drill or Dental Laser for Cavities: What's Best and Safest for Tinnitus Sufferers?

Would using earplugs work? I know people have mentioned the "occlusion effect," but I’m not sure I fully understand what that means. Is it harmful to your ears to wear earplugs at the dentist's office? If so, is it because the dental drill is being used inside your mouth, causing the sound waves...
