Suffering from Tinnitus (Repetitive Whooshing Noise) and Misophonia

Stay strong Mark ! As you may know, there are bad days but also good ones, regarding T (and in my case, Hyperacusis too). I'm trying a new approach about it. Don't give a damn as much as I can. We have a mindf*cking disease all of us, we need to be ultracareful, but we must fight against fear as...

Hyperacusis/Tinnitus Setbacks Take Gradually Less Time to Recover from

Usually my recovering time from setbacks depends from several factors, like other unexpected small/medium noises exposure during the recovering, and where I'm recovering. For me home is too quiet and sensitivity gets worse, even with pink noise generators or sound enrichment. I tend to improve...

Pulsating Teeth, Gums and Jaw After Every Noise Exposure

Hi to all, As I may have written before here on Tinnitus Talk, I have noise-induced hyperacusis and tinnitus (I'm an ex-musician). I noticed that each time I experience painful noises, after a few seconds I get this strange feeling of pulsating teeth, gums and jaw, which lasts in proportion...

Are Headphones or Speakers Safer for a Hyperacusis Sufferer?

I'm a guitarist too and I strongly suggest to avoid headphones. I had to sell mine, now I only play the electric guitar at home with an active speaker at low volume (of course), directed in a way that makes me a little bit more comfortable and NOT close to me. There are also days that even the...

Hyperacusis and Overprotecting vs Underprotecting Hearing — Let's Discuss Specific Scenarios

As an ex-musician I really think that I would need an audio device (earplugs or something) that reduces ONLY peaks of volume, like a real time limiter/compressor. Like for dishes, horns, motorcycles, etc. (motorcycles are the worst situation for me, luckily winter is coming...). Like, setting...

Hyperacusis 2.5 Years Later: Any Hope of Improvement? Any Preferable Treatments?

Last audiogram (2 months ago) reported quite a huge loss around 3000 Hz in the left ear. Plus I did a VEMP test (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential) that says I have hyperacusis mostly on the left side (but I feel sensitivity on both sides...). Doing VEMP test with headphones was quite...

Hyperacusis 2.5 Years Later: Any Hope of Improvement? Any Preferable Treatments?

I've been suffering from hyperacusis & tinnitus for 10 years, and I'm 37 (ex-musician). It got a lot worse in the last years, due to some acoustic traumas (that normal people wouldn't consider "traumas"). As @Croaker said, the more you avoid the sounds that hurts you, the better you'll get. But...

To Plug or Not to Plug

Indeed this is a real dilemma for us with hyperacusis... I struggle to find the right balance, and sometimes I think it doesn't exist! I'm worried about overprotecting, but also in these days I feel a lot of noises are worsening my hyperacusis, so maybe I should. Are there suggested earmuffs...

Acoustic Trauma from Car Speakers Resulting in Hyperacusis, Tinnitus and Ear Fullness

I hear you, I had one of the worst setbacks 2 weeks ago. Very loud drill sound resonating like hell at a building site, forgot the plugs and couldn't escape because I was helping a colleague... Now my tolerance is really reduced, will take years to improve...

    Flare Audio's ISOLATE Ear Plugs

I have had flare audio metal plugs, and I think you should absolutely avoid it if you have hyperacusis; I went to a gig in 2018 with these plugs, came out and felt like hell for months. The metal part makes bass frequencies really hitting hard and my hyperacusis worsened really bad since that...

What Should a Hyperacusis/Tinnitus Sufferer Do After Being Exposed to a Loud Noise?

Thank you for your feedback. I just stopped at a drugstore and took curcuma, ginkgo and magnesium supplements,as well as ibuprofen based painkiller. Quite sure it will take months to recover a bit of noise disconfort level, anyway.

What Should a Hyperacusis/Tinnitus Sufferer Do After Being Exposed to a Loud Noise?

Hi to all, I suffer from both hyperacusis & tinnitus, and this morning I forgot my ear plugs and had to go to a building site... suddenly a super loud drill perforated my brain and I couldn't escape because a colleague needed my support. A couple of minutes that lasted hours for me. Now I feel...

    Why Advise Against Headphones?

As a general rule, the more I avoid loud places/situations, the more I get better, or feel better, or at least the condition keeps stationary. dangerous things not necessarily loud but still painful TO ME are headphones and telephone calls with the device leaning the ear.

    Why Advise Against Headphones?

Fact is, why to risk? If someone have noise induced T and H, maybe by default should avoid headphones, considering the several witnesses. Or at least be supercautious. Anyway one can still enjoy music and life without headphones I think. do I mind not being able to use them? Yes I do:)

Headphones — White Noise Generators and Tinnitus

Thank you Michael, I’ve read alot of your posts and I can’t agree more. My T and H is indeed noise induced. I was a musician and played in several heavy metal bands from 18 to 32. Plus I was a regular goer of discos, pubs, gigs...everything started with a very soft tinnitus when I was 25. Of...

Headphones — White Noise Generators and Tinnitus

I’d like to share my experience. I have tinnitus and hyperacusis, bought a pair of good “audiophile” headphones (sennheiser hd660s) for my hifi system. Sadly I soon discovered that even at low volumes both my T and H got worse. Equalizing a bit was indeed helpful, cutting superhigh frequencies...

Musician with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis (Not Giving Up!)

Hi Sebastians, I've tried this solution before, but for some reason the earmuffs over earplugs makes everything resound/rumble in a weird way. I should try with better quality earmuffs.

Musician with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis (Not Giving Up!)

I noticed that too, expecially because I tend to push them too much in the ears when I feel worried about the loudness. Now I'm trying different earplugs to find the most confortable. First I was using 3M ear classic, now I'm going to try Howard Leight MAX and Hearos Xtreme Protection. Thanks...

Notched Music Therapy (DIY, AudioNotch, etc.)

I'm trying to find the right tinnitus pitching using earplugs and headphones. With a barely udible volume I scroll the Hz meter and I discovered that around 4800 hz the sound disappear/get confused with T. Do you think this is a good way to determine the right pitch ? I also wanted to ask if...

Musician with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis (Not Giving Up!)

Good Evening tinnitus mates, New to the forum but really glad to have found it. I'm a musician and play in a small metal band here in Italy. Started to face tinnitus problems 8 years ago, as well as hyperacusis. Now I can't stand to enter rehearsal rooms without earplugs (NRR 33). And of course...
