Basically, my sister has this keychain that you pull when someone is kidnapping you. I didn't know what it was, so I tried to move it, and the loudest sound I'd ever heard in my life blared into my ears. I tried to turn it off but had no idea how. I think I was exposed to it for about 30 seconds before chucking it out of my car.

I went to urgent care and got prednisone, and I also took some magnesium. I don't know what to do other than that, but I'm still freaking out because I know how damaging noise at that level could be. I just had no way of preventing this and my ears were completely unprotected.

Ideas?

Christ I'm so sorry you went through this. There really needs to be a limit on how loud things can be or at least information on what can damage your hearing and its effects.

Were you able to cover your ears at all? I think prednisone was a great call especially since you got it right after the event. Other than that all you can really do is try and rest your ears and avoid loud sounds, no earphones if you use them usually. Try NAC or curcumin I've heard good things about both though haven't tried them yet.

How do you feel? Any spike, are your ears full or anything? I hope this doesn't turn out too badly for you. You're being proactive and that's always good.

Really sorry to hear that happened to you. Are you sure it's 130db though?
Beyond pred and NAC, you could also look into melatonin and nicotinamide riboside, both of which do have some research supporting them.

I agree with using N-Acytelcistine (NAC). There's evidence that it can help preserve hearing after noise exposure.
