DON'T KNOW
I've suffered with this horrible ringing in my ear since 2010. So far I've been able to deal with it, but lately I've been unable to ignore the ringing. I live in NYC where you hear fire engines, ambulances or police cars constantly. My sound is a piercing ringing...... HELP PLEASE !!

If the sound is loud, then possibly protect your ears. Sorry that you live in a noisy section of town...

Welcome to the forum. There are many causes which can trigger or aggravate tinnitus including but not limited to drug reaction or side-effects from ototoxic drugs, ear wax build-up, ear or Eustachian tube infection or ETD, ear drum injury, fluid build-up in ears feeling pressured or fullness, sinus infection & congestion especially with a bad cold, TMJ, TTTS, high blood pressure or blood circulation problem, loud noise exposure or acoustic trauma/shock, head trauma & injury, neck injury or muscle problems, hearing loss, Meniere's Decease, barotrauma from sudden change of air pressure such as during landing & taking off on flights especially with blocked nose causing failure to balance the pressure changes, slapping of the ears, deep grief for the loss of loved ones, untreated sleep apnea, extreme, extended stress, anxiety & panic disorder, etc., etc. If you have any of such conditions lately, you may want to have ENT check it out. It is also quite common that people's perception of T as being louder because of stress in their life. Have you been masking your T if you are hightly bothered by T?

Try to stay calm. I know that not easy. I have panic disorder, so I understand anxiety. Distract yourself, get enough rest. Give up any stimulant if you can (caffeine, nicotine, sugar). But mostly stay calm.
