Hello everyone!

So, I'm getting close to the dreaded 3 month anniversary of my tinnitus and hyperacusis onset. March 12 is the day. The last few days I'm living with a moderate hiss/electric sound, that seems to have a slight pitch (not always). I can hear it most of the time. It's mostly between my ears but on occasion goes into the head (not happy about that at all). When it hits the head, I have a hard time dealing. On occasion I'll have a solid tone pop in, but fortunately they have been going away.

Yesterday, I was able to be REALLY present for my family... for the first time in a while. Today I'm struggling again, but I'm faking it till I make it. I haven't checked out from them... more like I've been going through the motions robotic.

This week I'm picking up hearing aids as they did help me (I demoed a pair). I'm also seeing a neurologist and psychiatrist.

The weird part is, at three months, I still haven't found a doctor who seems genuinely interested in helping. Any recommendations for the Long Island/NYC area? ENTs, neurologists, chiropractors, ANYTHING? My audiologist is actually pretty sincere, and seems to want to help. But even she said "there is really no one to help you". Just crazy. Ok for now.

Quiet rooms still suck the life out of me.

Tom

@MusicTeacher you will get through this. We all have good days and bad days. I just had someone slam an overhead on an airplane 2 feet from my ear... the ear plug wasn't seated properly. Did the person need to show how "strong" they were by slamming the overhead... no... but what's done is done, and there is no going back...

I'm at around 4 months... please be careful and knowledgeable about any sleep, anxiety, any psychotropic drugs the Docs want to give you, and the side effects and possible addictive tendencies.

Hang in there...

On bad nights I'm still taking Xanax to help sleep. But I'm hoping to get to an all natural state. Love this forum. Don't love needing it. Thanks for the support!

I live on Long Island also. I've been to a couple doctors and audiologists. I went to the hearing and tinnitus center in Woodbury they're very nice and try to help there, but overall it's just about what you can do to manage it. No one seems to try and help make it go away. I went into a Hear USA near Roosevelt fields and asked if they could help me. The lady at the desk said "sorry there's nothing you can do." Didn't even want to make an appointment for me

Yup, I've had similar experiences. At least they were upfront about not being able to help. Lol

I'll look into the Center in Woodbury. It's a trip for me, but I'd like to meet with some specialists.
When I tried the hearing aids, I still had a very clear pitch... very high. The audiologist wasn't sure it would work (because I have no significant hearing loss) but they definitely brought the volume down.... and it was pretty immediate. Now I've got more hiss/white noise than pitch, but I'm hoping they work the same. I'll post an update for sure.

Another new event for me. Last night I woke up with my left ear screaming. I was sleeping on my right side. After the initial panic, I got up and started stretching my neck, back and shoulders. Sure enough, the screaming died down and went back to my baseline. So many things to consider. Now I'm realizing that my neck and back muscles or filled with knots.... and my neck crunches when I move it side to side.

Well- hearing aids work great in rooms with some level of background noise. Wore them for a couple days and now my head tinnitus is back in bloom ... and I'm losing my mind. Not sure if there's any correlation to the hearing aids. Tinnitus in the head is the WORST. So hard to deal with.
