Hi All,
Just checking in to post my annual update. This forum really helped me when I first got Tinnitus and Hearing Loss so I just wanted to keep you all updated on my progress and to clarify that this is something you can live with. It may not seem like it when you are first diagnosed but things do get better.
So, not much has really changed since my two year update health wise. I'm still coping really well day to day. I manage to ignore the Tinnitus so well sometimes I forget I have it. to be honest I think it would be weird to hear complete silence now. The only time I struggle is with my hearing for example if I'm hosting a large meeting at work sometimes I can't hear what people are saying to me but I find if I explain I'm "Half Deaf" people are really accommodating. All of my friends are fully aware of my hearing difficulties and understand when I'm struggling.
Last summer I went through a really difficult period of time and ended up splitting up with my then boyfriend. I found around this time the Tinnitus was more noticeable, I think this was because of stress. However I found that times like that puts everything in to perspective. I'm a huge believer in everything happens for a reason, we are massively tested in life. Getting Tinnitus and Hearing loss was one of the hardest times of my life BUT I got over it and it made me realise that I'm strong enough to get over anything that comes my way.
This leads me on to Andrea. I met Andrea on this forum 3 years ago. We got Tinnitus around the same time and really supported each other. We have been talking constantly ever since. We don't even talk about the Tinnitus any more its all about life, studying, work, relationships, drinks, dancing... We are like soul sisters, we have the same birthday (2 years apart) are into the same kind of things and just get on so well. I'm actually going to visit Andrea in Romania next month for a long weekend and i'm so excited. Again everything happens for a reason, if I hadn't got my Tinnitus and Hearing Loss I wouldn't have made such a great friend!
I get a lot of people contacting me on Facebook for support. If anyone ever feels like they need to talk, ask questions please do reach out to me. I'm more than happy to listen... (with my good ear) and offer all the advice I can.
Things WILL get better... Life is precious, you WILL get through anything life throws at you.
