I decided to give it a shot, to see if I really needed the air filter machine in my room to use as a masker for my tinnitus. Being that I've been able to sleep in hotel rooms without this stuff, I should be able to sleep at home too. Sure enough, sleeping was not an issue! Actually, sleeping never was... but when I wake up, I notice my tinnitus is reduced. It does slowly come back during the day, but it seems to almost be gone.... though there are still times it spikes depending on situations I am in. This leads me to believe that my tinnitus is either related to my dental work still which I've been trying to get fixed or related to some liver issues.

My T is only a month old, but the way i see it you will cope a lot faster if u don't try and mask your T all the time, in the end a lot of us have to live with it! masking the T all the time can only make it more sad when you then hear it without masking.

But great to hear :)

I need white noise and rain sounds all night and I'm still unable to sleep properly.
My T is 1 month old so eventually I will get used to it. Life sucks now. :(

Same, except mine is 2 months old. I need a TV to fall asleep. I hope this crap goes :(

I take Remeron. But I am looking always forward to my sleep. This is my only escape from a loud, shrill T.

Same here! In the beginning sleeping was a massive problem. I slowly went from not sleeping at all to sleeping 3 hours a night, to 6 hours a night to whatever I need. My fear of going to bed and not being able to sleep is gone. I stopped using sound machines to help me sleep and it does not affect me!

If I am in my morning or evening "twilight" zone I am not even sure if the tinnitus is there. Nowadays I (again) just love to lay around in my bed on sundays with the tinnitus just being a non intrusive distant whistle. I would have never thought that could happen. I went from banging my head against to wall with a massive fear tinnitus and not being able to sleep to this....just plain lovely!

I have been sleeping without maskers for about 3 weeks now....lovely!

I tried a masker for about a week when I first got T, then I said screw it. Eventually I just fell asleep from exhaustion. I've had T for 17 months, and I just go to sleep listening to the T. I managed to get used to it by not masking it at night. I think that was the best decision I could make, for me.

Hi! I'm just wondering. Are you a back sleeper or it seems to me that you are at the point where it doesnt matter anymore if you sleep with your ears against the pillow where we all know makes the T seem louder.

This is my 6th week on T.
Since taking NAC pills last week Ive been able to sleep without any masking noise. T seems less aggressive.

Back and sides. When my ears are against the pillow it doesn't make a difference to me. Most of the time I fall asleep I'm usually on my side.

I developed anxiety because of fear of T i guess. The stress, worry. All these piled up. Now i have insomnia, i have to take something to help me sleep. I just wonder, will i ever get back to my normal sleep cycle once my emotions are stable? And the negative thinking about T has been diminished?

Take Melatonin pills for sleep.
Review the Melatonin thread in the Treatments page.

I sleep no masking and My T is horrific. I hear it all day loud and clear. Makes no difference if your T can't be masked. Nights are easy, you don't have to try and act normal around people (like you aren't being tortured by T) like in the day. I find it easier to be mentally tortured via T if I don't have to function or do anything, I just have to lay there and take it until I crash...easiest part of my day.
