A Collection of Links Proving Some People Are Insane

The link in the OP here seems reasonable to me? You've got hifi heads discussing appropriate amp setups to potentially drive high-DB peaks without clipping, interspersed with discussions of volumes. A couple people appear to be a bit unbalanced or too aggressive with the volume, but it seems like mostly people are being thoughtful and trying to avoid exposure to noise that's likely to cause hearing loss?

Listening to headphones at 90db with occasional spikes to 110 for a couple hours a day clearly isn't good for you, any more than eating red meat seven times a week is good for you, but the majority of healthy individuals will be able to do either of those things for extended periods of time without serious consequence. If anything, I think hifi nerds are a lot more likely to be responsible about volume than, say, gun owners.

Agreed, but read a bit what he's saying, he keeps pushing the volume. This behaviour will lead to serious hearing loss sooner or later.

Another one:

Well considering that most people will get only hearing loss much later in life from such exposure, I am not surprised why awareness is low. We're the tiny minority. Like how there are more than 35 million flights in a year and almost all of them land safely, with a very few exceptions.

Indeed. The audiatory system is suprisingly resilient for most. I wonder what the evolutionary pressures have been in place to temper it like that, as such loud artificial stumili appeared only recently.

Put your volume way down, actually I watched it without sound because I don't wanna hear how silly they are.

In this competition the challengers are supposed to make the highest level of noise possible in their car. There is a dB meter and the one who makes the loudest noise is the winner. They attain 135-140 dB
