I have had intermittent tinnitus for over seven years at this point. It seems to me from studying and through experience that tinnitus is a medical dilemma; based on the facts that there are so many different causes, types, degrees of severity, and lack of medical research into the matter. Even if there was a surgery that could be offered many would not be able to afford it, and many would opt out because of the extreme risk factors that would go with it!
Although Benzos seem to help some cope with tinnitus better mentally for awhile; they soon become addictive and have side effects.
Obviously tinnitus is your bodies way of warning you something has gone wrong internally. For many this is because of loud noise exposure which has damaged their inner ear causing inflammation. If treated soon after I suppose that prednisone may help some.
This leads me to believe that probably an anti-inflammatory diet with supplements could be of great benefit to many. If inflammation is brought under subjection it offers relief from different diseases that are intensified by inflammation.
Also regular exercise rather than Benzos may be enough to take the edge off the anxiety tinnitus causes some.
Keeping weight under control can help to have normal blood pressure. Avoiding known causes of tinnitus spikes can be a blessing as well, such as sugar, salt, tobacco, alcohol, MSG, loud noises, high stress situations, air travel, ototoxic drugs, etc. Some find a place of solace with meditation; myself I find relief through prayer and asking others to pray for me.
Please let me know if any of you have tried an anti-inflammatory diet with supplements; and how it worked?
