Cause of Tinnitus
My T is way different than all of you , ask me how
Since my tinnitus got louder, I have noted one thing: Every time I open my jaw there is a massive loud click on the left side following small clicks as I move my jaw.

Anyone having the same? I am talking about anytime you open your jaw.

Yup. I have TMJ tinnitus so idk if that's helpful.

Do you get jaw pains? Is the Tinnitus louder in the left ear? If you haven't already I'd try contacting a Jaw specialist of some kind. I've had TMJD for as long as I've had Tinnitus and Hyperacusis. And after i got to see a specialist who gave me a night guard as well as some stretching exercises my Tinnitus and Hyperacusis has dropped drastically. Could be that I was just lucky, but it's well worth a shot IMO. :)

What excersizes? That would be very helpful.

I posted it some months back in the positivity thread. But I'll repost it here. Hope it helps you as much as it helped me!

1. Jog with your jaw by moving it up, down and side to side for a couple of seconds. Your teeth should never touch when doing this.

2. Open your jaw as far as you can and then move it as far as you can to each side.

3. Put your hand below your chin. Open your mouth slightly and put pressure on your jaw by putting preassure on your chin with your hand. Do this for 6 seconds and then rest.

4. Put your hand on your cheek, move your jaw in that direction putting pressure on your jaw by holding against it with your hand. Hold for 6 seconds and then switch side. Then rest.

5. Put your hand on your chin and push your jaw forward to put pressure on your jaw by holding against it with your hand. Hold for 6 seconds and then rest.

6. Open your mouth, put your fingers on the teeth of you lower jaw and try to close your jaw while holding against it with your hand. Hold for a couple of seconds, and then rest. Note that your moth should stay roughly in the same position even when trying to close it.

7. Open your mouth wide, then stretch it a bit further by holding it open with two fingers. Hold in this position for 15-20 seconds and then rest.

8. Finish the exercise by checking that your under jaw is still correctly alligned with your upper jaw by opening your mouth and checking it in a mirror.

9. If you want, you can finish the exercise by humming on the M sound which relaxes your jaw.

Worth adding is that you should avoid all exercises that hurt a lot. I hope you can understand the main points in each sequence although it is translated directly from Swedish. :)

Would you know whether these exercises can be used to Prevent TMJ?

I know that they are used to relax your jaw and ease tension. I grind/press my teeth when i sleep and when I'm stressed. So that's how I got it. But stretching your jaw every now and then should be beneficial for everyone who is prone to stress/anxiety.

Thank you, although I've been to a dentist and he says my jaw is a lil bit out of line lol. But dentists here don't know anything about tinnitus. While trying the exercises you mentioned, whenever I open my jaw my tinnitus goes loud. I might try your full exercises, thank you.

When I do the step 6, it reduces my tinnitus from 10 to 1.. strange

Yes. You're jaw may actually be a bit out of place you can find a physical therapists, massage therapist, or chiropractor to put it in place. Also once you get it in place don't over do the exercises. Also, interview the person you're going to see about your jaw. Some people have no idea about TMJ, but just want your business.
