About 30 Hours of Flying Coming Up — What Precautions Should I Take with Tinnitus & Hyperacusis?

Why would it cause problems?
I usually wear my custom molded plugs during take off and landing, and had never any problem in more than 25 flights.
The only problem I had is when I slept on the seat row with my head laid on a seat (the 3 seats were free), one of my ears was clogged after that. I should have kept my head straight.

By the way, can you control your eustachian tubes "manually"? This helps controlling the pressure.

Also earplugs during takeoff? I am quite scared since some people say that can cause problems. I will probably fly with smaller Boeing, since it is just 2-3 hours.
During takeoff I just held them in a little tighter.

I think some people wrote that it could cause barotrauma, but I could be wrong, I just kind of remembered that one should not wear plugs during takeoff and landing. By manually controlling you mean pop them open by blowing my nose? If so then yes, I can do that. I also will take some gum with me.

No I meant popping them on purpose, just with your brain.
Anyway, I think with the bubble gum it will be fine (or just mimick chewing). If you are truly concerned about this do no wear your plugs when the plane is ascending, in the minutes after the take off, nor when descending, before landing (put your fingers in ears when the plane is just about to land if you are afraid of that noise).

Oh ok, no I don't think I can do that. Maybe I will just wear some noise cancelling headphones during take off and then put in my foam plugs. I don't have hyperacusis, I just don't want to take any risk:) Thanks for the advice.

Most people would probably just think you're a hipster wearing chunky 1970s headphones. Like the ones Dr Jacoby wore in Twin Peaks while he was listening to his Laura Palmer psyche session tapes.View attachment 24936
I watched like the first 30 episodes of Twin Peaks like 3 months back, I just think it's a crappy show... I like how it's very nostalgic though, I was born in 1981 and it brings me back to my childhood. I remember this show being on tv around 1990 and who could go wrong with the girls in it!
