Acoustic neuoroma left ear
Hi Everyone,
I am 70 and had a tumour for 35 years now...yep with Tinnitus.
I elected not 2 have it removed because its a major and dangerous op.

Found through a scan, had many after that and non for past 20 odd years as nowt changed, deafness in high frequency areas and to anyone that cannot take that frequency, get it CHECKED?

So I am on here to advise anyone with same condition that takes at least 20 years to grow by the way, to watch who plays with ur ears, like syringing/sucking out ear wax. In all professions u get the gud, bad and UGLY, I feel I have just experienced the latter. I have had my ears sucked out of ear wax many times, no probs, then this one medical practice decided this time to not send me to a hospital but to send me to another practice that specialised in ear suction...cheapness, who knows?..but I am NHS patient so yes feel cheapness!

I said when he started that I had a tumour to ensure he knew so can u put it on very reduced suction?..he went onto must have been highest, I shot off the chair, he smiled!!-I said sorry do u know what a tumour is and have u done this b4, he went odd saying I am a doctor, I said of wot exactly. I allowed him to continue and wish I hadn't now.

A few days later I experienced the worse tinnitus in 35 years, I went 2 my doctor who had sent me there, he said it will die down, well it has NOT!-So next is a hospital appointment 2 hear what damage he's done.

That's some advice to people who have their ears looked at?

Hi @compressorman ... my heart goes out to you after all that you've been through, mainly due to the irresponsibility of a professional doctor.

But I'm sure your warning will help many people who find themselves in a similar situation.

Does your acoustic neuoroma sound as if it happening in your left ear?... I say that because my tinitus sounds as if it is situated centrally, just inside the top of my head ... and not in my ears at all.

Even though it was most likely said to you in quite a flippant and insensitive way by your GP, when he told you 'it will die down', please don't give-up on that thought. Throughout my life, I've always tried my best to have an optimistic take on life ... that the glass is half-full rather than half-empty ... so even if he wasn't giving any thought to what he was suggesting to you, just keep thinking that one day, maybe, ... just maybe, ... that which is grieving you right now might actually die down. Keep believing that a miracle might just happen one day!

Just out of interest, the brain tumour that I had was called a 'cavernoma' ... and as incredible as it seems, they reckon I was born with it, because it was a benign tumour, in my left-temporal lobe. The only point that they discovered that I had it was when I had a brain-haemorrhage back in 2001. They suggested that I should have it removed and so I went ahead with the operation. The chances of surviving the operation were 50% .... of a full recovery for those who survived the operation 0% ... of the 50% who would survive, complete character changes would happen in 95% of the patients, and then 80% of those would also need to line 'in care'.

And the upshot of all that? ... I had a total, and complete recovery!! .... Miracles DO happen, believe me!!

All my best wishes to you, @compressorman ... I hope you don't mind if I place you on my Prayer List!
