Hyperacusis patients also experience sound fatique. At the end of a day their ears are tired and less tolerant of noise. Almost all hyperacusis patients experience a symptom commonly referred to as fullness in the ears. It is a feeling where the patient feels pressure in the ear or the sensation that someone is actually pressing on their eardrum. Other patients feel pain or burning in the ears.
Everything mentioned in the above post is typical symptoms of hyperacusis. I had a very severe form of it 22 years ago when I first got tinnitus, due to noise trauma caused by listening to music through headphones at too high volume without realizing it. For over 6 months my head felt completely numb and everything I heard sounded as if my head was under water. When in conversation with anyone I had to ask them to please lower their voice as my ears hurt.
As I have previously mentioned, you should try and get another referral to ENT for further tests and if possible see a Hearing Therapist/Audiologist that specialises in the treatment and management of tinnitus and hyperacusis.
Best of luck
Michael
