Tinnitus Since
2012, H 2016, 12/2018(?)
Cause of Tinnitus
loud noises, ringing came back 12/2018 after 1year of silent
I have read that stimulants make tinnitus worse for some people and some people have to quit coffee etc. Yet I wonder if ADHD medication would help people with tinnitus to concentrate? Or are sedatives the only way?

Oh also! Would ADHD meds help with hyperacusis?

Hi ,
Sorry to say this would be a question for your doctor or ENT.....lots of love glynis

Yea :) Thank you for answering

I tried amphetamine salts (w/ a prescription) at one point. They make you SUPER concentrated. They worked for me until I built a tolerance up, but that's only because I don't suffer from anxiety about my T, just depression.

I'd say if you're SUPER ANXIOUS about T, constantly checking it every 2 seconds, you probably wouldn't get much out of it as it raises your awareness of stimuli and, as a dual action, stimulates your nervous system, sharpening your senses - it can very well raise the volume of T, temporarily.

But don't take my word for it; the only way to really know is to try it. Like glynis said, talk to your doc. If you DO try it and DO enjoy it, please do not abuse it, it is highly addictive and can be very dangerous in general for off-label (read ADHD) uses.

So, I would like to ask from people suffering from hyperacusis/pain if any of you have ADHD too and got a prescription for stimulants exactly (I know ADHD people are prescribed SSRIs and Atomoxetine (Strattera) Bupropion, Clonidine etc)) but ye I would like to concentrate on the stimulants only, not anything else.

So you know, different types of amphetamines and methylphenidate etcetcetc

What is your experience, do they help you with tinnitus/hyperacusis/ear pain in any way?

Merry xmas too btw :p

@3ri0w Buproprion (Wellbutrin 300mg XL) caused my tinnitus. Everyone is different, so your mileage might vary, but I'd avoid that drug specifically (in any dose).

Ye that's sad mannn :( for that reason I wrote like you know the "(I know ADHD people are prescribed SSRIs and Atomoxetine (Strattera) Bupropion, Clonidine etc))" part like I wanted to exclude Strattera/buproprion/clonidine and just focus (lol) on the straight stimulants.... did the doctors say to you like "your ringing will subside after stopping medication"?

I think the last thing any of us need is a nervous system stimulant.
World's a strange place. You know it's weird that not a many people have replied to this thread :|\

Nope, the doctors didn't make any predictions like that... they just said it may fade after a year or two, or it may be permanent. It's been a year, and I'm still ringing. It's not as bad as it was when it first started though, and I'm thankful for that. The doc sent me home with a list of things that could worsen my tinnitus, and "ADHD medications" were on the list of things to avoid (So was alcohol and caffeine).
