Cause of Tinnitus
Wish I knew, possibly nosie damage.
I hadn't had a spike for maybe a month, got a few during onset but that was all over the place so it concerned me less. Since I thought the T had settled a bit this one really took me by surprise, didn't even consider it was a spike till maybe 30 minutes in, scared me witless. Today I feel like I'm on the edge of a cliff or something, similar to how I felt in the first few weeks but perhaps a little better. Pretty scared of going to bed tonight. Anybody have any advice? not really sure what I'm looking for I'm just feeling rattled and scared.

Well, what I do is just try to maybe come to terms with the spike, especially at night. Just try to be like, "Even if it's louder tonight, I've dealt with it before and I can deal with it now." What I do if even mental will fails, is just listen to a podcast or something until I fall asleep.

Hope this helps, and I hope you feel better soon. :3

When spikes come out of the blue after you have been doing really well the unwanted emotions come flooding back .

Try do what you can get through the spike with what you have learnt how to cope with tinnitus.
Remember spikes will settle over a few days.
Stay positive ..take care...lots of love glynis

@Shawty, Thanks. I think I'll just have to wait out this anxious feeling for now, hopefully a positive attitude will help speed up the process.

@glynis Thank you too. It's hard to feel like you're getting better only to get thrown back into these fears and feelings. Sometimes I feel like my good days make my bad days worse, since I want to believe that I'm trending upward towards better days.

Try to be positive and calm as best as you can. Spikes come and go, a reality living with T. Most spikes will settle to baseline again. If you really feel anxious hearing the spiked T, perhaps get some masking sounds around you often, so your brain won't freak out as much. You may also want to calm your nerves with natural alternatives such as Camomile tea, Hops, Valerian tablets or do some leisurely walk and most of all learn how to do abdominal breathing (youtube has many videos of that). Mindfulness can also help you deal the the anxiety. Take care and God bless.

I know what you mean by being on the edge of a cliff. My T was very stable for nearly 3 years. this year however has been a massive setback for me with spikes the like of which I've never known. but now as things are calming, some days pretty good, I do still feel scared. I cant enjoy it, I'm on edge waiting for it to spike again. I have no confidence anymore, like I did, like non T people do. I still feel very disabled by it all and scared too.
