Cause of Tinnitus
ETD probably?
I was recently diagnosed by an ENT with ETD and said there was nothing really he can do but wait till the Eustachian tube heals on its own.

I'm unable to relieve the pressure in my ears properly and my sinuses are crazy congested all the time.

My tinnitus disappears or at least becomes so quiet that I can barely hear it even in a quiet room when I take the nasal spray my ENT prescribed.

He said maybe it could be allergies so I'm in the process of getting an allergy test but in the mean time -

Any others who suffer from ETD that can offer some stuff that worked for them?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Ella,

- you can have a tympanometry test done and printed (to know exactly how bad it is and also have a point of reference for future evaluation, ENT also sees the ear drum color, position and possible wax covering it)
- you can have an ET endoscopy that you could also ask to be recorded (to know exactly how bad your sinus and ET entrance are, whether they are congested, inflamed or dysfunctional due to muscles)
- be careful using nasal sprays as they can have a negative impact although I don't know specifics
- avoid doing the valsalva technique

If it's allergy or flu it will go away in time. I have a friend whose tinnitus came and went after 3-4 months from this.

TL;DR go to a good ENT haha

(ET endoscopy demonstrating a few possible causes)

Warning for those who were told they have ETD!

Despite my disagreements with Joyce's pessimism, she has so many valid points about how ETD is a usually a misdiagnosis for unknown forms of cochlear damage. A good indication of this is if the "ETD" started after a noise trauma.

So is this form of "ETD" just incurable then?
