Affirming That One's Tinnitus Is Due to TMJ?

@sandra72 @Kara77

I'm about to complete 3 weeks wearing the splint and the hiss has gone down a lot. The dentist did say it would take 3-4 weeks before I would notice a difference, the biggest difference is my back teeth are no longer hitting. The ENT did say it would take 1 month minimum with the splint on. Will this improvement last I don't know, time will tell.

Sandra72 does your jaw crack/pop when chewing or yawning? Is your tinnitus unilateral or bilateral?

It seems to me that you are still focusing on what might be causing your tinnitus. And I don't blame you in the least. Trying to identify and address what is causing your tinnitus is absolutely the logical thing to do.

But at some point in time, if trying to identify and effectively address what is causing your tinnitus really isn't getting you anywhere, then perhaps you should consider another strategy. Or not. This is totally your call.

I do not wish to take @I Hate T's TMJ thread too far off topic. So I'll back off at this point and simply offer my sincere wishes for silent days ahead for all.
Hello doctor I have a quick question , I've had mild for about 2 weeks from loud music , and been. On sterioids pills and HBOT , and yesterday I was near a car horn that lasted around 3 seconds and my T has spiked up a bit , Is it likely to go away ?

Most mild tinnitus of two weeks' duration resolves on its own, even if it has "spiked up a bit." In fact most not-so-mild tinnitus of two weeks' duration resolves on its own. Please bear in mind that the fine folks on this board are representative of the very small subset of the tinnitus population for whom that is not so. There is, of course, no way to predict the future in any given case - but, in general, folks like you do just fine.

And I have another question , I went to the dentist and a tmj surgeon told me I have a wisdom tooth that has to be removed because it's cause a problem with my jaw ( lots of clicking ) and moved my teeth alot, could this be a reason for my T as well ? Thank u for ur replies much respect dr. !!

If you need to have the tooth removed for dental reasons (i.e., reasons other than tinnitus), then do it - and consider any benefit to your tinnitus to be an unexpected bonus rather than the reason to have the procedure in the first place. I would not have any dental or TMJ procedure done strictly because of tinnitus. I would only do it if there were other clear indications.

The surgeon told me it could be a possibly high reason why it's causes you're T or why it gets louder , so I think I should go for it ?

In my opinion, which is worth just about what you are paying for it, you should take your tinnitus completely out of the equation. Like I said in my last post, have the procedure done only if you would have had it done for reasons other than your tinnitus, and consider any resultant decrease in your tinnitus to be a bonus rather than an expectation.

@uae96

I have a tmj issue (mild), whether that is the cause of my tinnitus im not sure only time may tell. Most of the time my tinnitus is mild ir I can barely hear it.

My jaw feels better wearing it I have very clicking left and my muscles feel better. Two ENT and the dentist told me there is a connection between tinnitus and tmj, but not 100% convinced. What I do know is my clicking and jaw issues started about the same time as the tinnitus.

My jaw only cracks when opening my mouth wide. When i open my mouth is does not go down in one line but first my mouth goes to the right and then below. When i place my hands next to my ear om my jaw i feel when opening the left side first going down and then the right side. Do you know what i Mean?

@Kara77 @sandra72

Does your T flare up if you exercise like jogging or on the eliptical?

Yes. When i am jogging my sound goes like woosh woosh woosh on the ritme of my jog. Even when i am walking. My T is both sides. But on the left the sound can be more higher.

@sandra72

Yes I know what you mean by the jaw no opening or closing straight. It goes up crooked right? Mine also goes up first on the right then the left. The splint is helping with this. Im on
My 3rd week will see in a few weeks if it helped for the T seems like it is but dont want to be too optimistic yet. My T is also on both sides like a hiss sound. Im having more days where is very quiet hoping it will just go away completely one day.

@Kara77
So it took you 3 months of wearing the splint for it to make avdifference on your T ?

Yes that is what i mean. I dont have a splint because i have no bit teeth anymoren only in front. But they are also weak and my dentist advice my to pull my upper teeth out en take a prothese. I dont know if this would help the T. My T is in the morning louder than the rest of the day. Last year i woke up with a hiss but it did go away during the day and it did go on like this for a week. Then it went away but a couple of weeks later it happend again but this time it stayed.

My jaw clicks sometimes when I open my mouth. Rarely, I get a loud pop on one side of my jaw that hurts. However, I have no pain when eating. My tinnitus is in just my right ear and it came after an ear infection. Rarely though, I hear T in my left ear but it goes away after 10 seconds or so. Do you all think I could have TMJ?

Don't think so , most people's jaw click when opened widly

I think my T is from TMJ. After taking the right meds, it's almost gone! Although I believe it's also from allergies too (imflammation causes my T) Since being on maintence with my shots and taking the muscle relaxants, the T is almost non existent and I no longer have congestion. :)

What meds did you take and did you do any PT?
