After 4 Months My Tinnitus Is Virtually Gone

Hi,

I'm a little nervous about writing this as I don't want to tempt fate, but I promised myself that if my tinnitus ever went I'd write on here to hopefully give some hope to new sufferers.

Mine started in May for no known reason, I'd had a bath and got my ears wet but apparently that doesn't cause tinnitus. I then started the downward spiral of anxiety, no sleep, depression, despair. I had seen an ENT consultant and my hearing was within normal range. Things got worse so I went to see a private ENT and begged him for steroids, although I knew they probably would not help as I'd had T for about 8 weeks at this stage. They did bring the T down in volume a lot and after stopping the steroids the volume never went back to it's previous volume. Then in August I had a family holiday and things slowly started to improve from there. Today, I can only hear a very faint 'eeee' if I plug my ear. I can't hear it in bed or any other time. I'd say it's been like this for nearly 8 weeks and I'm just reaching the stage where I do not feel the need to keep plugging my ears to check if it's still there. My anxiety has gone completely now although I do worry about it coming back.

I wish I could give you all a reason why mine has gone so that you could try it, but I just want to let you know that it can go. I had read that it can go and Dr Nagler told people this often but I could never find evidence from someone who'd had it disappear, so I hope this can offer some of you some hope.

Good luck and take care guys.

Nic

Thats really good! Happy for you!im 6 weeks in now and out of the anxiety/panic mode whix was REALLY bad a few weeks ago..i rarely think about it dueing the day anynore i keep busy and have changed my attitude towards T if i hear it i say "fine whatever go away" ...maybe im habituating?? I still mask it at night with earplugs (i got a little white noise machine from amazon) and not sure for long im gonna have to mask at night but im doing MUCH better during the day and not taking sleeping pills anymore...i lose my earplugs in the middle of the night i wake up out them back and go right back to sleep...im learning to live with it and hopefully it will fo away one day im staying positive and moving on with my life i wont let T ruin it! Tjanks for your post im trying to stay away from this site but every now and then i come here to read success stories they give us hope!enjoy your silence!

Ive been taking lipoflavanoid plus some homeopathic stuff for T for about a month now and even though its not as loud as it was in the beginning o believe these supplements are just a bunch of placebo...im not gonna spend my money on it anymore....i will stick with my regular vitamins for magnesium vit B gish oil etc but i believe TIME,acceptance and a positive attitute are the most important for T sufferers. ...ive accepted my conditiom and think at least this is not a life threatening one so stay positive! I tried hipnosys in the beggining too but my anxiety panic level was SO high that i ended up taking ativan for about 2 weeks...

Hi Nic,
good news. I would like to ask you some details about the corticosteroids regimen you went through. can you give us the name of the medication, doses, and for how long?
The reason I'm asking is that I always self-medicate with steroids when I have spikes or relapses, and they usually help me. I've been tinnitus-free most of the time these last 10 years after my onset episode which lasted 4-6- months. One month ago T started again, I've been taking steroids erratically for a day or two (a bit like an aspirin approach) when it was getting louder or when I had my typical symptom of "aural fullness" on the left side.
Two nights ago it went really bad and I started steroids again, this time I'm planning to do 5 days but I don't really know what the right dose would be as there's no sound evidence in the medical community that they help with T.
With me they are definitely working, last night was 50% better.
Please let me know, have a good day

Hi Andrea,
I took prednisilone, 40mg for 7 days. It was prescribed for 10 days but I also had dizziness & bad anxiety at the time so me & my dr decided to stop them a few days early. My T went from a 6 or 7/10 down to a 1/10, back up to a 2-3/10 after ceasing the steroids & then gradually got better from then on. I also had the aural fullness & dizziness too.
Hope that helps x

Congrats! thanks for telling your story too, I know it takes mad courage. I've also told myself the same thing about sharing my story once I get better but I can see why there aren't a ton of success stories, once people get better the absolute last thing they'd want to do is go and revisit the worst time of their life it's only natural, so thanks.

Great to hear. I hear lots of stories of t going. Just not on the boards. Yes, I think people don't write success stories because they do not want to revisit it, especially as healing can have as much to do with the brain and moving away from t.
Think the other reason they don't write success stories on boards is because the response can often be aggressive with people's frustrations with t. Comparisons and nay saying can come into play to try to discredit that person's story.
So thanks again for being brave enough to share this with us. And great you are experiencing this change.
