Am I Inserting Earplugs (Howard Leight Super Leight) Correctly?

I'm probably overthinking this.

The earplugs I'm using are Howard Leight Super Leight (also known as MAX) shown here: https://www.earplugstore.com/holemaxuffop.html

Here it is inserted as far as it will go.


Does it look correct? Too deep?

If I don't go as deep, it allows the flange to expand a little more. As shown here:

I went shooting on Saturday and doubled up on hearing protection. I used those ear plugs as well as a set of smith and wesson shooting muffs on top of that. The rifle had a muzzle break which directs some of the gas back and is quite concussive.

It gave me a delayed spike the next day and I'm not sure if the earplugs just weren't in right or if it's from the sheer concussive force getting through via bone conduction.

This sucks because shooting used to be very therapeutic for me whenever I was anxious or stressed out about something. And now that's being taken away from me.

On another note. The only earplugs that fit my ear! The Slim Howard Leight ones fit. Do you know where i can buy similar slim earplugs in either black or a darker colour? (other than the orange and yellow colours i know they offer) I would prefer a dark colour as i use them daily when leaving the house as i have hyperacusis.

They both look good to me. As long as it's not touching your eardrum, which I doubt, but would depend on your individual ear anatomy. When you look straight on into the mirror or at another person, they shouldn't be noticeable. I would wear muffs on top of them if you are doing loud impulse noises.

This is a great question. A lot of people don't ask it, and wear earplugs incorrectly, and then get lifetime damage because of the false sense of protection.

You can also get fit tested at some audiologist offices. Some of them have 3m fit testing apparatus. Howard Leight (Honeywell) may also have a fit-testing apparatus at some audiologist/hearing offices near you.
