Cause of Tinnitus
Unknown
I've recently acquired some type of ear infection in my left ear that is causing a loss in hearing at 2 kHz in my left ear, on top of an existing loss in hearing at 4 kHz that I have already got in both ears.

I've been to my doctor and they ha prescribed Amoxicillin 3 x 500 mg daily but this has caused a major spike in my tinnitus which is worse in the evening.

My question is, does anybody think that the Amoxicillin could be the cause of the spike or could it be that I am stressed out with the additional hearing loss?

I am feeling really depressed and just need a bit of advice.

Sorry to hear about your tinnitus spiking. Amoxicillin does not cause tinnitus. It is one of the safest antibiotics when it comes to tinnitus. Most Penicillins are safe. The spike is most likely due to the infection. You should take your meds and wait. The tinnitus will most likely subside when your infection goes away.
