Another Person's Sneezing Nearby Causing a Tinnitus Spike?

Anyone's tinnitus worsen when exposed to noise from sneezing?

Took my plugs out for a clean. The wife then sneezed loudly (about 4 feet away).

Is this cause for concern? Ear feels a bit full now.

No, not permanently. But there are some damn loud sneezers and coughers out there. If you have hyperacusis, using ear plugs too much will make your ears more sensitive and might give you a spike. Don't worry about it.

@spikedears no this would not be the problem. More so the way you may have tensed up with the unexpected sound.

When this happens try relaxing and breathing in slowly instead of instantly tensing up. It takes practice.

Hi @Gman have you experienced this? I pretty much wear plugs all the time and everywhere at the moment. Sometimes with muffs as well. Gotten to the point where I took the muffs off today (still had the plugs) and voices seemed so, so loud.

Gonna have to try and lessen my dependency on protection, but the mental addiction/safety is just so hard to break

Hi, I have had this a number of times, but the spike is no more than an hour or so. It may be more a case of tensing up when a loud, sudden noise happens and you are close to it. Good luck..

if you "hate" your wife because she sneezed four feet away from you, you should either bail on that relationship or commit to it fully and try to reconcile whatever is going on between you

no, this can't cause hearing damage, so it's less likely to cause a tinnitus spike than anxiety thinking around it is

Yes. I've also had ear fullness after loud coughing nearby. Spikes from people slapping hands at insects etc. It sucks but it's unlikely to cause damage.

Wearing plugs all the time is going to make it worse/ more sensitive. Choosing the right times to wear hearing protection can be tough, but you really don't need them everywhere.

Now your ears are hypersensitive you need to slowly lessen the protection use. Ive had many set backs over time but am now getting past those anxious dark days where everything seems like a threat. I wear 18db nrr musician ear plugs when really needed, or just leave the place that's too loud or don't go there in the first place.
